Weather and Water Conditions day of the tournament:
The day started off very chilly with a launch time temperature of about 36-38 degrees. It warmed up nicely to about 50 degrees later in the day. At 2:00pm (1 hour before weigh-in) the weather took a drastic turn for the worse. The temperature dropped dramatically and we had a very strong downpour of rain and hail. The water temperatures were 55-57 in the morning and 60-62 in the afternoon.
The strangest part of the day was in the morning when 3 boats were locking down to pool 17. A full grown deer decided to lock down with us. It swam into the lock from pool 16 and continued to tread water until the gates opened to pool 17. Then it exited through the gate while being escorted by two Triton TR20’s.
Director’s Report:
Tournament winner Ken Warren caught his fish on a 7/16 oz River FINatic spinnerbait from Strictly Bass Lures. He was fishing around laydowns (fallen timber) in a shallow backwater area of Pool 16.
2nd place finisher Chris DeVries caught his fish on a Senko made by Gary Yamamoto. The exact pattern or areas Chris fished are not known.
3rd Place finisher and Big Bass winner JT Bagwell caught his fish by swimming a Jig with a 5″ Yamamoto Single tail grub trailer near fallen timber.
