Looks like RCL Pro Jarrad Fluekiger aka “Fireflick” is sitting in 12th place! Also, Pro Scott Steil is sitting in 20th place after day one of the RCL at Spring Valley. Red Wing, Mn Pro John Renschen is in 6th place!

Here is a link to the RCL website for all of the weights:

RCL Spring Valley – Day 1

For you readers who are not familiar with the RCL format. Here is the deal. The RCL is a 4 day Pro-Am tourney. (Pros a paired with a different Am each day) Everyone fishes the first 2 days. Then the field is cut to the top 20 on day 3, then cut to the top 10 on the last day.

I talked to Jarrad today. The water is up another 4 feet since the weekend. So a total of 7-8 feet since last Friday. Only 56 teams weighed fish today. Tuff bite. This one will be fun to watch!

Good Luck Jarrad and Scott and all the local sticks in this tourney. We’re pulling for ya.

    Jon,

Looks like an awful lot of Goose eggs as well?
Did the river get mega dirty down there all of a sudden?
Looks like the MWC weights were significantly higher. Just curious on what changed down there?

    Good Luck Scott and Jarad!!

    Steve,

Yes, way up and dirty. Leaves, sticks, garbage. Chocolate milk! It rained every day during pre-fishing for the MWC and on tourney days. All that water is moving through that pool now. The COE opened up the dam last Saturday and the water came up 1-2 feet overnight. It’s now up at least 6 feet from last weekend! The press release said the river had crested and should start coming down today.

I was there also for the MWC. What a mud hole. That was my first trip to Spring Valley. Too bad the conditions are not cooperating because that river is full of good fish. Good luck to the local boys. I have noticed you Red Wing area river guys do real well in the RCL. OUT…

Also, good luck to Adam Adler on the Co-Angler side. Adam is sitting in 21st place after day one.

Lets hope with the water cresting and slowly falling, the bite will pick up for Adam, Scott & Jarrad. Is the end of today the first cut?

Yes, the top 20 teams go into tomorrow. The rest go home. All 20 teams start over with a zero weight.

I am glad to see the a couple guys from the site are doing well. A guy I fish a lot with is fishing his first pro tournament down there so I am watching close. So far he has a goose egg, just like many others.

Quick question: Do the weights reset on day 3 & 4?

Last year they reset to zero on day 3 & 4. This year, the top ten teams carry over their day 3 weights to the final day.

Jarrad had a 9.5 pound bag today. Hope the 15.13 holds out to make the cut!

Jarrad made the cut! Going into day 3 baby!! Go get ’em buddy. We’re rooting for ya!

Unfortunately, Scott and Adam did not get bit today. That’s fishing.

The bite got better today for a lot of boats. Some really nice bags came to the scale today. Look for some heavy weights the next 2 days.

WTG Jarrad!! I’m sure Scott and Adam put up a good fight today but it sounds like the bite was tough.

Way to go Jarrad. Jarrad is a river rat and hes fishing a very dirty high water body of water but its still a river so he knows what to do and is obviously doing it. He is in 8th place after day two.

    Thanks, Bill

I am back home now. Thanks for all the well wishes. Jarrad is representing us well in a tough bite. The water is still high but as of yesterday afternoon it started falling. It still looks like chocolate milk though.

Jarrad and I worked the same area for days 1 & 2 and Jarrad will be working that area for most of the day today. The bite is tough to say the least. Jarrad had 3 bites yesterday and I had 2. He was able to boat all 3 of his fish and they are dandies in that area. The average Sauger we have been getting is 3 1/2 pounds but the bites are few and far between. I think Jarrad has a good game plan for today and hopefully it will produce 5 bites.

    I need some sleep now

I just got back from fishing the RCL in Illinois as a co-angler. My first ever. Only weighed in one fish and actually felt damn glad to have that fish and what-ever points go with it. It was tough but yet a good experience none the less. Any one who has never been thru it, should give it a try. It will definitely give you a much better appreciation for what these guys have to go thru and the many different conditions they have to be prepared for.
Mother Nature made sure she had her say in this tournament.
Good luck to all those guys still fishing in the tournament!
Interesting side note here. On top of all the changing water conditions, the fish are just starting to spawn. The Illinois Natural Resource’s is collecting all the eggs from the females. After day one, (and I’m not entirely sure about these numbers) I heard that approximately 13% of the females were already spent. After day two, it was up to 20% of the females had already spawned prior to being caught by tournament fisherman.
Just one more twist to deal with while fighting the weather.

Jarrad is going to make the cut and move on too day 4. He should be sitting in 9th or 10th place going into day 4 with just under 10 lbs on day 3.

Jarrad is the man I just got off the phone with him and we discussed his game plan for tomorrow. He has a good thing going and if the river does not change he should move up.

The fishing continues to get better and I think we are going to see a big weight from him tomorrow. Keep up the good work man

Good Luck Jarrad!!! I am looking forward to fishing in two weeks and getting an email or two back. Moving up for the gang will definitely be worth the wait.

Congrats Scott, Adam and JWB on your efforts as well.

Thanks guys for all the support. This definetly was a dream come true. Being in the show on day 4 is a experience one will never forget. It was just plain awesome.

Once I get settled down here at home and take care of a few things I will try and get a report up with what my week was like.

Thanks again for all the support. Special thanks to Jon Jordan, Scott Stiel,Adam Adler and all the Red wing guys down there for helping me.
