Does anyone know what was the winning pattern for the 40lb bag weighed?

You can go to the AIM website and watch the weigh ins for the second day… not sure what worked but sounded like dragging jumbo leaches was effective. Not sure you will get a more specific answer fishing has been all over the place with a lot of changing river conditions. I have not been to the river in a couple weeks. Good luck!

I’ve heard one of the top finishers (not winners) was at the very foot of the lake most of the time in community spots. A friend’s father fished it and said they were never below the can line and ended with two respectable days. The major points on the MN side in the lake are usually a magnet for these guys as well it seems. There’s a rumor that one very large bag was DQ’d after getting stuck in lock traffic in Pool 3.

I’m not a participant or expert, but most of the tournaments won out there are on live bait. A lot of willow cats and leeches are drowned looking for a few big bites. Cranks are more of a numbers game. x30 – 12-18″ fish isn’t going to win $.

So do they record every fish to get to 40lbs or is it a 5 fish average?

They aren’t actual weights. Each team counts their 5 biggest fish by length. Virtually every walleye tournament is doing a catch/photo/release format, including AIM. It’s based on length and it’s a standard conversion. Whether or not the recorded fish weighed close to what is listed is up for debate. Certainly the 38+ pounds at Mille Lacs is not even close based on only 5 fish.

I prefer this format to be honest. It helps ensure more fish are released alive.
