Tough going

Last few trips out have produced a big fat ZERO for me, getting frustrated to say the least. Been fishing pool 3 on the river and realize that the mayfly hatch could have a little to do with it, but I wasn’t doing that great before. Anyways, is anybody else having any luck with the cats? I’ve tried below the dam, above a dam, around the wing dams, holes, anywhere that looks fishy….. I’m not looking for your secret spot – just an idea on what I should be looking for.

    Thanks fellas and gals

Been VERY slow the last couple times I’ve gone on the MN river. I’ve contributed it to being the spawn still, and hoping it should be done soon. At least that’s what my amateur catfishing brain tells me.

I’m still learning but I have been out 2 times in the last 2 weeks – once on pool 4 and once on 5a. We have gotten a few fish but it has definitely been slow. Last night me and a buddy were out with 4 lines running creek chubs, bullheads, shad and cut creek chubs. We ended up with 5 fish 8-930 and that was it. We fished 8pm-1230am. My observations were that there are shad literally everywhere. Running with the spotlight after dark they were jumping all over the place. Another challenge is that there is almost no flow. I used 2 anchors to keep the boat positioned as I would have drifted all over the place with the predominant wind blowing upstream. The fish we did catch came all on the cut baits including a flathead 34×20 (all others were channels). The other surprising thing for me was they were all caught in probably 5fow or less as the spot we wanted to start at was being fished by some crappie fisherman and we didn’t get to move into it until dark.
