    Favorite show yet peace

James do you use lighter Marabou jigs for smallmouth when not in river current? A 1/4 oz would sure cast better but would it have the right depth/movement in lake waters too?

We use the Marabou jigs in lakes quite a bit but rarely go heavier than 1/8 of an ounce. The most common weights are 1/16 and 3/32. If we catch a day with strong wind we’ll jump up to an eighth in an attempt to keep most of the bow out of our line from rod tip to lure. Favorite colors are black, brown, and dark purple.

The 2 Humminbirds in the back of your jet boat, is one a 9 and the other a 10?

Looked like you had the SI going on the 8?

I have two nine inch Helix at the rear and a nine inch Helix at the bow.

So I have a 9” at the rear networked with a 7 up front (uses the Ulterra transducer) and both a SI and high speed transducer hooked into my nine with a Y cable. Do you know if I could put another 9 or 10 in the back without adding a transducer?

When you throw the lighter jigs like 1/16 do you ever push a couple inches of Senko or similar plastic up the hook shank to “flare the hair” and add more weight to help cast? Or does adding the additional weight mess up the fall rate/action you are trying to achieve?

You could add a unit to the back and have one dedicated to the SI transducer and the other to the high speed. The 3 units won’t be networked without a hub though.

I prefer not to add anything to the Marabou jigs when I fish them if possible but there’s times when we’re fishing ultra clear bodies of water that adding some bulk increases casting distance which keeps from spooking fish. Most of the time though I just fish the jig plain. To increase casting distance I do like using long medium light action spinning (7’+) rods with Sufix Nanobraid with a 6# flouro leader. That stuff casts a mile. waytogo
