With my truck! Bumper and grill toast. First time I have ever hit one.

Happened to me last April about a week after I got my new to me pickup momma and three fawns popped up onto the road I had no chance missed all but the last fawn rolled right over it I got lucky enough I didn’t notice any damage but it sure made me fell like poop that day only time I’ve ever hit a deer came close many times before that
April 11, 2021 at 6:56 pm #2029106Oh no! That’s not good! Hope you are okay. That’s impressive that it’s your first though.

Wife and I are fine. Taking it head on was the only safe option.
April 11, 2021 at 8:15 pm #2029123I have the worst luck with hitting them. I hate driving at low light periods anymore. I have hit 5 with my car and 2 with my truck in the last 10 years.

Glad to hear you and the wife are good.
I tell my kids to hit the animal, do not swerve as worse thing will probably happen, unless it is a moose.April 11, 2021 at 9:15 pm #2029131Grilling it up at the IDO GTG??

April 12, 2021 at 7:20 am #2029146I had one of those little Bas***** run INTO me on Saturday evening. It was about 7pm, still somewhat light out. Next thing I know, BANG! Right into the side of the truck. Watched the deer in the rearview get up and run off with another little one. Pretty good dent in the rear passenger door on my crew cab & munched the box side pretty good between the cab & wheel well…
April 12, 2021 at 8:23 am #2029149I’ve hit 4 and one hit me while I was stopped and watching it and another one chasing each other playing. Bam right into the front fender.

April 12, 2021 at 4:44 pm #2029260Glad that you kept it on the road and everybody but the deer is OK. Swerving to try to miss wildlife can go really, really bad.
April 12, 2021 at 5:44 pm #2029270Glad everyone’s okay. That’s the most important part! It sucks to smash up a truck but it’s just a truck, that’s why I always have full coverage on my vehicles. I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!
I’ve been fortunate enough to have avoided all deer interactions with my vehicle. I’ve also cleared the top of my center council many times due to braking hard to prevent a collision. That being said I was in the truck with my dad once and we had a doe run in to the front driver fender just behind the wheel and bounce down the side of the truck denting every panel on the way. (the truck was basically new so it wasn’t totaled thankfully, also, we did end up eating that deer so it wasn’t a total loss).
Also as others have said it’s better to hit a deer than try to avoid the collision and end up upside down in the ditch or worse hitting another driver.
April 12, 2021 at 5:56 pm #2029274True story. The only deer I’ve ever hit with a vehicle was a nice 8 point buck during deer season ON MY WAY to the stand at 5am in the morning. Talk about ironic. Snapped the antlers right off. I went back in the darkness and picked them. Still got them too. Another car hit the buck after I did and severed the thing in half.
In case you’re wondering I did not fill my tag that season.
April 13, 2021 at 11:49 am #2029410My late father in law hit an 8 point in the winter and its antlers both popped off its head when it hit the ground. I have them both, road rash and all. Freshest sheds you’ll ever see!
April 13, 2021 at 12:41 pm #2029432Glad everyone is ok. Even though the inventory is low right now GM, Ford, Ram, Toyota all still build LOTS of trucks. A new truck is waaaay less expensive than a hospital stay.
I have never smucked a deer, been dam close a couple times. In prime deer country and low light times my eyes are constantly looking in the ditch or woods edge. I have been a passenger on 3 occasions when my driver hit one though.

I ended up piecing that back together with sheet metal, pop rivets and zip ties. I smoked an owl once that cost me 2k in body work, but the closest I have been to a deer is when a doe snotted all down the side of my car after I swerved into the shoulder and slid the car sideways avoiding her. I couldn’t believe I missed her. Snot was everywhere lol.

i second this one about the bear. it was dark out and in my to young to drive days yet we where headed to the cabin. dad was driving a 4 door buick skylark at the time, i think. anyway out comes a bear, doing about 55-60 dad hits it with the car front passenger side corner. we stop, no real damage to the car. get to the cabin, mom couldnt get out, door wouldnt open. the back door opened about half way.
next morning only some hair from the bear on the car. they loosened up a bunch of bolts and everything from what i remembered sprung back in place and doors worked. they went back where they hit the bear and no sign of it……anywhere. there one tough critter.
DEER…… i hit 1 and one hit me…..both during deer season. had lotz of close encounters.
