Movember
(a portmanteau of the Australian-English diminutive word for moustache, “mo”, and “November”)
is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as
prostate cancer,
testicular cancer and
men’s suicide.
The post tonight that mention IDO has been around 16 years made me stop and think for a moment. We’ve had some very close friends with prostate cancer, testicular cancer and some that have taken their life. Many, too many members have left us far too early. You know who they are.
As a prostate cancer survivor, I can not express in strong enough words to have your PSA taken on your next check up or just call your local clinic and order one. You don’t need to see your doctor to have a PSA test done.
There’s a lot of controversy over PSA test results. Catching the silent killer is the first step. Deal with the controversy afterwords.
My hope is that if you’re over 50 and see some guy with whiskers, it will remind you to have your PSA checked.
PS The FW hates the facial hair and she’s already scheduled my appointment at Lakeland Village Barber Shop on December 1st.
(Least I’m not shaving my head this time!)
