WOW! James that big one you caught looked like a Carp it was so huge. The big ones didn’t look like they were putting up the legendary Smallmouth fight or are you guys just that good?

Welcome aboard and good job today Mike. p.s. how did you get a hat? lol

Cold water and super-fat proportions make these smallies less nimble than they’ll be after the spawn. It is actually a bit hilarious to watch one of the big ones try to jump. Imagine me trying to dunk a basketball with 42 year old legs and you have some idea of how clumsy it looks. But once the water warms and they slim up after the spawn they’ll be back to fighting shape!

The show was filmed on Little Sturgeon Bay.

Real good show with the smallies here in Sturgeon Bay. When fishing for these pre spawn smallies in cold water it really does take a slow approach with your presentation and when you do hook into that big smallie they kind of just hit the surface and stick their heads out and just wobble across the surface. Sometimes it can be a bit frustrating seeing all these big bass down there and having to be very patient and fish slow until they take your presentation but very rewarding after they bite. Good Job.
