Was able to get my 11 year old out for his first ice fishing trip of the year this morning to chase some crappie.

    Pre-Trip:
-Picked out a lake with good survey numbers of keeper crappie
-Picked a starting point (purple pin)
-had 5 rods rigged (tungsten fly, slender spoon, slab rap, ripping rap, jiggin rap)

    Fishing:
    – drilled 10 holes starting at the purple pin towards the red pin
    – started checking holes, found crappie in the 3rd hole, we caught 6 of them.
    – went back and checked holes 1 & 2, found another pile in hole 2, caught 4 of them and called it a day due to the wind
    – kept 10 crappie from 9″-10.5″
    – also caught 1 bluegill on the tungsten fly
    – the crappie were aggressive again today, my son caught 4 on the slab rap, I caught 6 on the slender spoon.
    – I only have 1 flasher right now, we took turns working the marks.
    – taught him how to fillet fish, with a knife and an electric, he’s like me and prefers the electric.

That’s a good start to having a fishing partner for life!

That is super fantastic Dad. waytogo waytogo

The best part is now you have a fishing partner and you don’t have clean fish!!

how accurate do you find that app to be? I have the same one and twice it has been off by 100 feet at least.

Last year I went to OTC. Thought I was over 30 feet of water on an inside corner. Dropped the ‘ducer and I was standing over 80 feet. Saturday was similar. Thought I would be over 23 feet but was over 40. I do realize triangulation off cell towers will never be as good as a gps but 100 feet?

Since I’m only looking for it to get me a basic starting point it works good enough for basin crappie. From there it’s about punching holes and finding them.

Not sure how accurate it really is since I’ve not used it to fish a specific piece of structure on ice where location would be critical.
