Today’s crappie bite….

About 65-66 degrees for the general population of crappies to begin spawning. Some may begin a couple degrees earlier and those are generally larger, older fish. And they like slightly deeper water for spawning.

We had similar water temps on Friday but the lake shot up over two feet in a day so our fishing was definitely tough. We did find fish, but they were in areas we didn’t figure them to be in for a couple weeks. A couple of our fish were really nice…13″.

We’re going to see what tomorrow offers.

Some good areas also warm later, these are not the community holes and they can also hold larger fish.

Its supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow again so its possible we go backwards again for a few days here.

I wouldn’t say they were thick in shallower water yet. But there was enough moving in there to keep me busy for a few hours. I had gone a couple times earlier in April and it was a total bust.

Yesterday on one of my local lakes the crappies were in 3-6ft in standing curly leaf pond weed. Water was 55-59 and a few of the males were turning black indicating that the spawn is coming soon.

Fun day. Plenty of crappies caught, just the size was down some. The wind bit us pretty good just about the time we found a spot that held numbers and was with us right until we boogied. Got a high wind notification here this morning for later today.
