I was looking to mess around with the idea of putting some tip ups out for panfish. I’ll still be jigging for panfish. Just wanted a few extra lines out to help follow the school. Any ideas or thoughts of what tips I should use? Line? Lures? Greatly appreciate any responses. Be safe out on early ice and have a great ice season.

Try using tip downs. They work great for crappies, perch, and walleyes.

I caught some crappies and perch on tip ups last year, I had them set for walleyes using a single hook and a fathead and was very surprised at how many panfish I got on them

The iFish Pros worked well for me last year. It took some getting used to setting the sensitivity on the trip assembly, but once I dialed it in, I was catching a lot of crappies and gills.

If you are interested in buying some Tip Downs, I have been making them for over 20 years and started selling them a few years ago.

Quite a few guys on here have bought them. I’m starting to build them this week, got a slow start this year due to moving.

Or if you just have some questions, feel free to PM or call me

I had a friend make my tip downs. I’d be glad to show you what they look like, and how they work. I live in Lakeville, if you want to meet and take a look at them.

Getting that second line in the water can be huge-put one shallow when you are deep or vise versa. Tip downs are great but a pain if its very cold. Minnows work best for tip ups or tip downs. For tip ups make sure the line is peeling off as smoothly as possible and the flag is tripping efforlessly. Good Luck

These are the best balance tipdowns you will find. We have been using these for years. They work awesome!!

I recently got my hands on a finicky fooler. Not a classic tip up as it’s similar to the ifishpro idea with a rod and flag. It’s pretty slick excited to try it out more this year as I got it at the end of season last year just another idea to try maybe!

Been using the finicky fooler also. Used tip-downs for panfish for years, but I can set this tip-up as light as a tip-down and there is no more hand over hand.
