Hook storage is a pain in the ass on most Tip-Ups, but here’s an idea that works awesome to keep things under wraps waytogo

I stole the idea years ago from a company in Maine (after buying some). Super easy to make, just get a roll of Velcro and some grommets.

They work awesome on rattle reels as well, and cover up trebles too!

Jack traps in Maine, best tip ups made.
    Those velcro straps work great.

I run mine to the base of the flag and use those little rubber rings they sell. My flouro leaders stay straight and hook is partially hidden under the flag. I cant stand a leader that is all springy after being wrapped on a spool in cold weather.

Do you use their waxed line? I am looking at trying it.

I have not, and I’ve never found the perfect tip up line.

Most of mine have old school Dacron on them, but I have 80lb Spiderwire (original ) on a couple. I like it, but it has a learning curve because it’s zero stretch.

I bought a 3000 yard bulk spool of Spiderwire Stealth that I’ve been meaning to try, but haven’t yet. It’s more waterproof than the regular stuff.

I use the pony tail bands that the three ladies in the house hold leave around. this idea covers the hook better though.

Firehouse R-tek tipups are nice if anyone is buying new ones. They fold into a tube that covers the spool and have a magnet inside for hooks. Keeps everything that could get tangled contained and you don’t have to wind the leader tight to do it.

I use the firehouse brand too, nice and compact and easy to transport.
