Just bought a couple tip downs for some late ice crappie fishing. What lb. test should I be using? Any certain brand that works better on tip downs.

    Thanks

4lb fluorocarbon, #10 treble hook, small split shot 6″ up. If you don’t want the minnow swimming as much use a drop shot rig with a #4 hook up about 6″.

I use 6# main line that is colored so you can see it on the ice, I add a very small swivel, 4-5 feet of 4# fluorocarbon, #14 treble, and a BB split shot about 12″ above the hook.

If you would of bought them from me they would of came completely rigged and ready to fish and probably cheaper. I also ad a safety line that is connected to the frame and the butt of the pole with a snap lock and screw eyes. This will keep you from losing poles down the hole. You can see them here.

I have not tried the HT graphite rod, one it’s too expensive and I believe they have the wood handle.

The rods with wood handles are difficult to balance property because of the wood varies so much, you cannot drill them in the exact same place.
