I typically do not add a minnow head, love the lure but was wondering if most guys add a head and if affects the action or success rate?

Following. I have little success with these, I think mostly because I have no idea how to work them.

I dont use them as often as Rippin Raps but generally I fish them both the same with a minnow head or a soft plastic on the belly hook. I know a lot of guys dont tip them, but its piece of mind for me I guess. I fish them about the same way, but the slab rap I’ve noticed you have to try a little harder to keep line tight on the drop than like a rippin rap, but otherwise they fish similar at least in my eyes.

Early season I tail hook a fathead/rainbow on the bottom hook of a number 6 and dead stick it.

I put a feather treble on the back and think it adds to the appeal. Tired of messing around with live/dead bait.

Baiting often affects the lure action, but if the fish want some bait to seal the deal then I will.

When I use darter style lures I sometimes put the tail of a fathead(maybe 1/2” to 3/4” total length) on the rear treble. Doesn’t affect the action much, if at all, and have caught fish with and without. I know that’s not the same as a slab rap tho. I still haven’t used one of those.

I’ve never added meat to any darting lure. It just doesn’t look natural…..maybe I’m missing out?

    Maybe, maybe not!

Last time I was on red, towards the end of the last day I decided to throw on a darter and had 3 consecutive 20-22” walleyes come out of nowhere and absolutely inhale it. That was cool. Can’t remember if I did the tail thing that time tho… btw thanks for your input on my first trip up there, eyeguy(and bearcat). I appreciated it!!
