Tundra?

I just swapped out the 2013 for a 2016 ecoboost, but this time I got the newer 2.7L. The 2.7 tows just fine and feels maybe more sporty but less torquey than the 3.5. I get 1-1.5 MPG better gas mileage with the 2.7 vs. the 3.5 so far (engine not fully broken in) without a trailer, but my gas mileage towing the boat was 1-1.5 MPG worse with the 2.7 (probably those turbos). Again, the engine only has 900 miles on it so it’s not broken in. I experienced a creep up to a 5-10% improvement on MPG as the 3.5 ecoboosts got broken in.
I miss the 3.5 a little even though the 2.7 makes more sense for me (because it’s my daily driver and even a big glass boat is well under the towing limits). It’s just that man, the 3.5 trucks were fun to drive!
What is the gear ratio on your 2.7? In 2015 the 3.5 was only up to 3.55 but the 2.7 was able to do 4.10. That may be the difference in “sporty’ around town and lower mileage while towing.
Tundra?
Have no personal experience with a Tundra but have 2 friends that own them. THEY love everything about them but the fuel economy. It plain sucks. They only use them to tow there boats basicly. Lucky to get 15mpg empty and my buddy with a Ranger 621 gets 8.5 to 9 on interstate driving. My Chevy 3/4 ton will do a little better towing his boat.

Yeah that’s what I heard also, but damn reliable they say. Its crap shoot, just take your time and drive and find something you like. Also just for kicks pop the hood and make sure the engine is to easy to service “if you do your own work” and don’t rush to get something.
My 2 cents.
If it’s not your everyday driver, take a hard look at the Toyota Tundra. I owned five F-150’s before buying a 2016 Tundra Crewmax. I LOVE the Tundra. The only drawback is fuel economy. The Tundra is a towing beast.
However, mine is a garage queen and only used to tow the boat or take family trips. If I were using it to commute, I would’ve went with another F-150 for the sake of fuel economy.
Nothing wrong with trying something different.(diesels) You already know GM half-ton gassers are bad ass.
I’ve never had fuel economy below 11 mpg pulling a trailer with my Tundra. The worst it got was at 75 mph or more with an enclosed snowmobile trailer on the freeway to Idaho. Pulling my 18 ft boat with a 150 on it, it typically got 14-15 depending on wind between the north metro and Walker. Without the trailer, I vary between 21 and 18 with the obvious wind and speed helping vs hurting. No matter what you choose, you have to find what suits your needs the best. I will suggest to look at crash testing results and also residual value. Even if you keep it for a long time, a vehicle with a high residual value will keep a LOT more money in your pocket if your vehicle is totaled. If it costs 5% more but is worth 50% more down the road, is that valuable to you?
I actually sell Nissan’s and the new Titan is sweet! the cummins Diesel is amazing. The 5 liter twin scroll turbo is probably the quietest running diesel you will run across. 555 Ft.LBS. of torque is excellent for towing. It has the major suspension and steering components of a 3/4 ton but rides like a 1/2. Fully loaded it goes toe to toe with any truck out there, and at significantly less $$. 5 year 100,000 bumper to bumper. we have a fully loaded diesel 4×4 for only $49,999!
“we have a fully loaded diesel 4×4 for only $49,999!”
Man trucks have gotten expensive! Not saying that’s a bad deal or anything but boy, a guy can get sticker shock real fast!
