Tilt and trim rebuild

    Thinking I’m buying a T8 with a tilt issue. Lowers good, but to raise it ,needs a little assistance havnt delved into it yet, if I need to be build it, how hard is it..

    Had mine go bad on my merc. shop said just replace the whole unit so I did as recommended 👌 500.00 set back

    Rebuilding is really not difficult if you have some mechanical skill and the right tools. A shop manual is handy as a guide.

    If it’s the rams themselves it’s pretty straight forward. If it’s the check valves and springs that are everywhere in the bottom of a trim unit, throw it away and find a replacement. Your odds of getting all the tolerances perfect and check balls/valves in properly is 50/50 if you know what you’re really doing.

    Odds are it just needs some oil added, and if you’re lucky maybe doing that once per year will be it, and you can live with a tiny amount of leakage.
