Has anyone tried using the single strand tieable titanium leader material to make tip up leaders? I played with the stuff this summer and like it so far. Any thoughts are welcome.

Out of curiosity, what do you like about the titanium?

    And what does it cost?

The fact that it’s almost impossible to get bent and twisted up is what I liked the most. Also its thinner, and makes a cleaner leader.. (Although I’ll be trying crimps instead of tieing knots because the tag end is quite sharp and catches on everything.) .. It was $15 for 15′ on Amazon. Cabela’s had it too.

Thanks. Have you tried to run any spinner blades or beads down this material?

Admittedly, I haven’t used titanium, but I will say that I switched to fluorocarbon leaders due to the fact they don’t kink like steel. I hate steel with a passion.

If you’re going to use crimps anyway, I’d recommend fluorocarbon if you haven’t tried them already. They make great quick strike rigs too. I’d imagine that it’s quite a bit cheaper than titanium too.

I use tieable steel wire for my musky fly gear.

Yes. I do plan on making floro leaders too and comparing if possible… I’ve used the pre-made floros and just don’t like the large bulky hardware that comes on them… (I also will be trying to run tungsten beads with a spinner blade to possibly get away from any other sinkers on or above the leader.)
