Just a warning. With this warm weather be sure to give your dog anti tick treatments now. I found a deer tick crawling on one of the dogs this morning. I’m glad I treated them on Wednesday.

We survived the winter with no ticks. Last year we were infested. Apparently the people who leased this house before us were slobs and had dogs. We’d pick 10 off Athena every night.

NexGuard works wonders. I suspect the pest control helped too.

    Pug-
Don’t jump to too many conclusions here, Pug. I’ve been breeding dogs since ’55 or so and i can’t remember the occasion that we had bad genetic issues, e.g three legged dogs, until i started using flea and tick chemistry.
I still would rather use organic wormers, but they do not seem to be as bad.
I still vaccinate, but extend it to as old as possible.
I’m just trying to say that adding modern chemistries is not always wise.
FWIW we had our first mosquitoes this week…
I do understand that the issues are much worse south of the MD line…

Yeah, I hate medicating the animals as much as I hate medicating myself. But it was bad and something had to be done. She also had a flea problem. The other 2 dogs weren’t as bad, because her undercoat is much thicker.

She also had some joint trouble. We thought she might have had Lyme’s from back in MN, but we had her tested and it was negative. She also used to come up lame once and a while, and chewed hot spots, but I can’t remember the last time that happened, knock on wood.

One of my dogs has lyme’s disease. I found 2 deer ticks on him last november. I never used any anti tick or flea treatments because I had heard so many bad stories about them. Technology must have improved them now hopefully.

    there are no great solutions.
    TICKS
not just deer ticks, but now the research community is admitting that numerous diseases are caused by many species of ticks.
    LYMES
if you vaccinate, you can not get a reliable test anymore.
    vaccination is 50% protective.

    but, the treatment is inexpensive,
so i’ve gone to treatment on first symptoms.
