Tick alert

I know others have mentioned this already but I woke up this morning with the bullseye again. Deer tick still attached. Carole and I spent a couple hours in the woods on Friday looking to mushrooms and I found a couple ticks on my pants on the drive home. This sucker didn’t make itself known and was missed. I found it on a real hard to see spot on my back/side and if I hadn’t noticed the irritation I’d have missed this thing entirely for another day.

Darn. If you’re going to be out in the grass and brush make sure you do a thorough job of checking for these damned things.

Two family members right now still recovering from Lymes over a year ago. Nasty, nasty stuff that hangs on seemingly forever. Yes, check thoroughly even if not directly in the woods.

I hope you recover quickly Tom!

Same here today. After pruning trees all day, had more than I could count on me and Ruger. Woke up to 3 deer ticks embedded. Still picking them off the dog

Had the target appear on my body twice. First time had to take antibiotics for 2 weeks and 2nd caught early enough didn’t have to do anything. Knock on wood did not have any complications from either event. Little gun shy of going out into the grass fields now though which really sucks. As a kid remember coming out of the woods covered in ticks and not having a care at all.

I’m actually planning on staking a stroll through an area of the woods I haven’t been to yet today. Whether it’s this or sunscreen reminders, thanks for always getting a good message out to others Tom.

I called for a nurse consult health nurse at the local er and got forwarded to some nursing service in GEORGIA. Great help that is as the service said to call back on Monday during regular business hours. Pricks.

I don’t want to have to go to the er. I really don’t want to have to go to a clinic either for obvious reasons. I’ll call my regular physician in the morning and see what he says.

If you have the bullseye, I’m pretty sure you should get the antibiotics. Not a doctor, but the bullseye is your body reaction to the ticks venom. Had it and my doctor didn’t even hesitate to put me on it right away.

I’ve started buying Permethrin by the cart load. Have my “working in the woods clothes” that are treated regularly.

Same here. I started treating my clothes with Sawyer Permethrin about six or seven years ago. Makes a huge difference. I very rarely find ticks on my clothes and have not found any on my skin since doing this. I treat my boots, socks, pants, t-shirt, long sleeve shirt and hat. I apply more than is recommended. I also know people that spray the seats in their vehicle.

I am in the woods a lot this time of year looking for mushrooms. If I am driving more than an hour from home I will take off the clothes I wore in the woods and place them in the bed of my truck for the drive home. If there is a tick on the clothing it has less of a change to get onto my skin if I am not wearing the clothing.

When I return home, I take the clothes I wore in the woods and hang them in the garage. I think the neighbor lady likes to see me run from the garage to the house in my skivvies. When inside I go straight to the bathroom and check for ticks. Next, I jump in the shower. I’ve read that sometimes the fast moving hot water from the shower head can knock off a tick before it attaches.

I hope everyone has a safe spring and summer in the outdoors.

Just woods ticks so far for me, but I rarely ever get ticks embedded until this spring, had the 4th one yesterday morning. I’m not kidding the last one to clamp into me was enough years ago I don’t remember how many.

Downside for the ticks, whatever I have flowing through me kills them once they get dug in, all 4 were already dead without sucking out any blood yet just like the last one I recall from several years ago.

Hopefully yours turns out Tom, real unfortunate timing to have to wander into hospitals.

I’ll just call my doctor’s nurse and she’ll get him filled in and he’ll get me dosed quick. Not to be going to any medical facilities right away.

This tick was dug in good but dead. I’m on Xeralto for blood thinning and I think that it is death to the ticks since it alters the blood.

Are you treating your clothes with Permethrin as others have mentioned?

This product is an absolute game-changer. I don’t go anywhere in the woods between April 1 to November 1 without clothing treated with permethrin. Rarely if ever do I find a tick even crawling on my clothing and it’s been years since I had a tick attached to me.

I turn my clothes inside out and treat the inside as well as the outside. I treat all my outdoors clothes, pants, shirts, socks, hats, everything. I wouldn’t go outdoors nowadays without treated clothing.

I bought Permethrin last fall and can’t figure out where I put it. Going to get more and get busy with a set of jeans and shirt just for the woods and mowing tasks. I tractor mow at the cabin and still get covered with the devils. I plan to do a couple sets of clothes with the agent.

Do I retreat every washing or is this stuff good for a couple washings?

Tom – I have a butt load of permethrin concentrate. Get it at FF. 1 oz of P to about 20 to 24 oz of water.
Wouldn’t step foot in the woods or grass without having it sprayed on my pants.
I’m finding it’s good for at least a couple washings.
That said, I still reapply often!

Hi Tom, I’m going thru the 10 day tick prescription now. Found one buried in my shoulder blade. I live in Lake City. Tried making a appointment, but with the Covid it is nearly impossible. I went on the Mayo Clinic website, went to Mayo Patient services, listed my conditions and within a couple hours a nurse called me. I was able to get a prescription in just a few minutes talking to her. No appointment, no blood test. I figure why take a chance. I’ll take a prescription (about 7 bucks) all day long rather than the consequences of Lymes disease.

For myself and my kids, we always bring a change of clothes, and the clothes we wear get sprayed with permethrin. When we’re done, all the clothes go into the “tick tub” and a final spray before the lid goes on. We’ve done pretty good this spring turkey hunting for time in the woods vs ticks that make it back to the house.

I spray every other wash. Says that you can go longer, but I’m in a high deer tick area.

Saw a Lymes segment on Channel 5 last night that appears to now be confirming that it can be spread by mosquitoes and spider bites too.

Pretty sure my two family members that have had it for 6-12 months now got it from Mosquito bites… never had ticks on them and/or bulls-eyes. This $hit is scary when undiagnosed for months and takes over your body.

Doctors thought my wife had MS or ALS for months since she kept testing negative for Lymes. Once she eventually tested positive the disease was steamrolling. Like trying to stop a locomotive with a feather now…

Just bought a bunch of Permethrin and plan to coat all of our clothing liberally this year!

Back on Doxycycline. Doc wants to be certain on this so….what’s another 2 pills to go with my already five daily for half a month? The pills I tolerate well so they’re a whole lot better than Lymes.
