Water temp was 80 – 81 and the flow felt right at 21000 cfps.

10 pounder came about the time I was thinking of changing locations from 5 feet of water.
We were using fat bullheads for 7 inchers.

26 pounder came next. It’s always fun to see your guest go down to their knees and the rod go half way in the water. LOL!

We made a move after that one. Using 3 bullheads and a foot long sucker for bait. The sucker gets thumped good and with the flow still in the 20’s there was a struggle to get her to the boat and netted. It was a good night that cat fisherman wait all year for with temps in the high 60’s. Didn’t need a jacket, but it was more comfortable with one.

Friday evening the water temp dropped to 76 degrees.
It was a tough night for our boat, but others reportedly did well.

Saturday evening was same as the night before. One fish in the 10 pound range.

One group of fellas were targeting flats during the daylight hours in a number of deeper holes along Pool 4. They said they were doing well, but I didn’t get a chance to see their live wells.

A group staying at Everts were chasing channel cats most of last week. They said they weren’t having much luck but the pails of fish guts in the cleaning shack said otherwise.

If you haven’t been out yet or thinking of going, now is the best time we’ve had all year.

Hope to see you at Everts Resort, Four Seasons or on the water!

    Brian-

Any insight as to what types of areas, or depths you were fishing?

I’m planning on heading out somewhere between the lower end of Pepin and Winona this week, and I’m wondering what type of structure I should be seeking.

    Hey Nick,

We were fishing wood snags. Both of the smaller fish came from 5 feet or less and the 36 came out of 18.

We have caught larger fish in less then 5 feet of water so I recommend fishing from shallow to deep. ALWAYS place a bait close to shore. If I was fishing an area that only allowed two rods, one bait would be a shallow shoreline setup and the other one would be where the current goes around the outside edge of the snag.

Where we can fish more lines I would just cover the face of the snag.

    Good luck this weekend!

Guess I’ll have to post some photos next weekend. Left them on the computer at Everts. <doah>

    Here’s Loden with his flatty.

    Brian-

    Is there bullheads at Evert’s?

Apparently my supply has dried up…

We fished roughly 17′ during the day by a rock/sand transition with some nice structure under us.

    This 37″ came around 4pm – i’d say its 25-30lbs.
