I like Winners in cold spring. Before, during and after that Conspiracy.

2nd choice would be Riley’s not far from bowstring lake, or gosh damn place near Winnie or fishtails in squaw lake. It’s a 3 way tie.

Gosh damn bar has some good food. Been to fish tails but never ate there.

My favorite bar food would be a good handmade burger and the good Ellsworth cheese curds

There’s another bar in red wing down by or near a hardware store, I don’t remember the name but they had good food. We ate there a lot during negotiations.

That’s what I figured, just wanted to clarify….I’m the same way in that I can’t bring myself to pay for fish out somewhere. We typically always have fish in the freezer and in my opinion I can batter fry it just as good as I could get anywhere else, so I’d rather do my fish fry at home.

Oakcrest Tavern in Middleton WI. Fantastic burgers, Friday night fish fry is great, cheese curds are the best I’ve had and the beer is cold and cheap.

Burgers and onion rings at the fish bowl bar in Danbury, WI. Then again I’m not much of a barfly. But it’s usually on the to-do list when up at the hunting property which is nearby on the MN side.

The brick in north branch has the best burger around. Was just in warroad and izzys had good wings and tons of sauce options. That place is kind of a dump though.

Glenn, your thinking of Allen’s in Red Wing. They have very good wings.

For price and atmosphere, I’m a Bluff’s fan. Ellsworth Cheese curds and if the right cook is working, the hamburger steak is awesome! Not to mention the Buffet on Friday nights. They have the only baked cod I’ll eat. Most people like the fish fry though.

Bayside Tap and Steak House has a ribeye and steak bites that are freaking good. 5 six years ago it was a little known secret. Now the place is packed on Fri/Sat meal times. Reservations are a must between 5 and 7. Prices have gone up and is the only reason I picked the Bluff’s first.

Dan, if your fish are cleaned, bring them too the Harbor bar (by boat if you like). They use the beer batter they use on their chicken strips on the fish.

I’ve had smelt made there with RRR.
Bluegill with my sister and channel cat by myself.

Okay I’ll add in the bar breakfast recommendations then, since nobody has touched on that yet:

    1) Spring Street tavern, north minneapolis: Bring an appetite, and your concealed carry gun. Absolutely worth it for this breakfast though, and things don’t usually get sketchy until late afternoon- the criminals need their beauty sleep. Best breakfast burrito in the cities.

    2) Valley bar and grill- prescott, wi: massive portions for breakfast leave you with 3 days worth of grub. Good stuff too

    3) Hastings Legion: look out at the river while you get a buzz on at 9am. What’s not to love? Prices rock, from what I remember

I’ll throw in a vote for the 2Tall Tavern in the Lincoln Lakes area. It used to be called the Hitchin’ Rail which was pretty good in its own right but the local guy who bought it really cranked it up a notch. They now have an outdoor stage with several bigger acts (at least for central MN) that come through every summer.

The seasoning they put on the free popcorn is awesome and the burgers and pizza are great. Beer is cold and prices are reasonable.

I’ll go with another vote for Dan’s in New Trier.

I was also surprised to see Kelly’s in Red Wing on the list. That place is extremely mediocre in my opinion. They have a large beer selection which is good, but the food is like thousands of other places.

The best burger I have ever had was at the Wilton Liquor Store/Bar. It was absolutely fantastic. That night I threw $30 in a good looking pulltab box and got $250 in winners. I told my boys we had to get out of there quick because there were some shady looking characters and there was some murmuring when I when to cash in.

KPE, that’s Northeast Mpls, and a far stretch from needing a gun. My 14 and her friends after school and practices walk around that entire area with their iphones and chapstick…

x4 for Dan’s in New Trier.
Anchor Bar in Superior should be on the list.
Vic’s in Victoria has great burgers.
Patrick’s in St. Peter and Jimmy’s Pour House in Sauk Rapids used to be in regular rotation when I lived nearby each.
Half Time Rec in St Paul, and 1029 in Nordeast both had their menu’s redone by (the Smack Shack I believe) chef’s not too long ago and are good spots in the city.
