Thoughts on shrinkwrap?

My boat has a carpeted floor. I’ve heard shrinkwrap holds moisture and thus mold even with Damprid and vents. So I’m thinking instead of shrinkwrap just using my boat cover and putting a poly tarp over that. Its in my yard, so I can keep snow pretty much off it. Any thoughts, thanks.

I have been shrink wrapping mine for several years and have not seen any signs of moisture when removing it in the spring. I have carpet with the poly board over it in the main floor. Not a Lund for clarification but do not see how that matters.

There is no requirement to shrink-wrap, mostly just makes it easier for snow and water to shed from the boat, which allows you to ignore the boat over most winters. If you do shrink-wrap and are worried about moisture let the boat sit in the sun with hatches wide open for a day or two, then wrap. Also place a fan inside aimed at a vent or opening, leaving the switch on. Let the cord dangle out, and on warmer days plug it in for a few hours to help dry stuff out.

I use a tarp over the factory cover. Works like a charm. Shrinkwrap was over $400 last I checked. To me, it doesn’t add $400 worth of value

If it’s truly over $400 to shrinkwrap, I’d rather pay slightly more to have it inside solely for the peace of mind. A fishing boat can be stored in my area for $500 in a pole building. My tritoon is inside an unheated shed with concrete floors and it’s own cover on it. My fishing boat is in my unheated (but insulated) garage with nothing on it. I’ll toss the cover over it if I’m cleaning or doing wood work to keep dust out.

Boats aren’t getting any cheaper. A roof overhead may not offer any more protection, but it does give me fewer worries than a tarp, shrinkwrap, or whatever else goes with storing it outside in the elements.

Don’t think they would shrink wrap thousands of boats if people were getting mold. Drying it out before putting it in any storage is the smart thing to do.

I’m near Prescott, and all 3 quotes I got for shrinkwrap the first year I owned my boat were >400. I was really astonished, I never knew it was that high.

Every place that I know of by my house always leave some vent openings in the shrinkwrap to help with possible moisture. They also will put in desiccant bags to help with moisture control.
