Thoughts on MicroSkiff’s in Midwest

Down south for work and came across a good deal on a Scout 162 center console. I Do a little design work on their current (6-7 figure) boats so familiar with brand and Lund-like following, but not sure on their notoriety in the Midwest.

I am curious on others thoughts regarding resale and general fishability.

Scout 162’s are designed to be inshore poling skiffs, so shallow draft with casting decks. The boat is powered with a 50HP 4-stroke which may limit its’ ability to scoot fast.

I plan on driving it up to MN and then determining how much I like the layout for my style of fishing. Mostly concerned with my ability to flip it if necessary.

Any thoughts or concerns regarding 16′ CC’s?

Attached a reference pic that is very similar.

I personally love it but think I’m jn the minority. I do not think this is a boat you’d be able to flip quickly for asking price up here. Center console boats seem to appeal to the saltwater and Great Lakes crowd a bit, but 16 ft is in the small side for fishing superior right?

My someday boat is a 19-20 foot Boston whaler so I have spent a lot of time looking at cc’s. I have read so much negative about cc layouts but something really appeals to me. I love running a boat standing up.

Deal breaker for me on a center console is if I had one I’d want the tower – and the tower won’t fit in a garage .

I would bet it will sell quick. Only issue i could see is if its been in salt water or not.

They make towers that fold down for the garage/storage. If it’s for a decent price I would not be worried about resale. There are enough of us non-traditional midwest boat seekers around that someone will grab it even if they come from a few states away. I’ve purchased and sold a few odd balls (for mn) myself over the years and feel the sales were pretty easy. You don’t need 100 local people kicking tires-you need one person with $$ who’s looking for that and doesn’t want to drive way down south to get it but will drive hours up here.

I may try and sell the 50hp off the bat and repower with an F70 or Suzuki. I love the offset Terrova, and the ability to fish aft to bow completely. Being a tiller guy at heart, I do feel a little cooped up down the center of a tiller and hate losing my bow space to the TM. I could go on and on about wood and carpet in a boat, and having the ability to wash down with a pressure hose I will love.

I figured I’ll either love it or hate it, and can wait until fall to pick up a deal otherwise.

    Appreciate the input

I could fish out of that.
