Anyone have any experience with or know a buddy that has experience with Larson FX series fishing boats? I’m eyeballing a 2015 2020 Tiller model and want to see if anyone has any useful commentary (or useless will work too…)

What waters would you be targeting with this rig?

All the usuals: Devils Lake, Superior, Green Bay, LOW, Mississippi in Redwing, Lacs, Winnie, Leech, Gull, Minnetonka, Waconia, just to name a few.

At one of the boat shows I worked last winter, the dealer next to mine was a Larson dealer. He didn’t have the tiller but had the 20 foot dual console model. Seemed like a solid boat from what I could tell just crawling around in it. The fit and finish seemed solid. I don’t personally know anyone that owns one though.

Here are $.02 from someone who is not, and never will be, in the market for a new $50k boat! The new Larson line of boat’s looks good — IF I was in that market, I would look in the direction of a used 1-owner Ranger/Skeeter/warrior loaded with all the goodies…They are out there (and still way out of my price range). Then again, I rarely look in the direction of anything that is new…..

You are comfortable trolling all day with a tiller on big water?

With modern day electric trolling motors the appeal of tillers have gone down, for good reason. There are reasons more pros use counsiles than tillers.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d be looking at tillers as well, but may want to weigh the pros cons of your big water boat to be a tiller.

I agree with nhamm on a big water tiller. If it is the type of boat you love, you know what you are getting. If you decide to consider console boats, in addition to the Larson, take a look at Stratos and Skeeter. I’ve had great luck with my Stratos 326xf. 25 trips on lake michigan in waves up to 6 foot, and hundreds of hours of walleye fishing in the 2 years I’ve owned it. Hasn’t met anything it couldn’t handle yet. They don’t make a tiller model though so if you are set on a tiller, just pretend you are my wife and ignore me. As you are aware, Skeeter has a solid following with good reviews around here.

Thanks for the input guys. I’m not locked down to just trolling but that will be a big part of next summer on big and smaller water alike. I wanted a tiller for the room primarily. I’m about three and a half bills big and getting around in a console is a bit tight for me. Besides, I spend 95% or more of my time fishing at less than 3MPH so speed and comfort while traveling is less important than the room I get while fishing. That’s the thought today anyway. Tomorrow may be a different thing.

Even though the boat is a 2015, it is used still and I’m getting a fully rigged boat for less than $37K. Even if I sell this in a few years, I’ll still come out OK.
