Any one have any of the thorne bros rods. I bought a few a couple years ago and they have been good. But I’m in the market for a new dead stick rod. I might swing in there after work and talk to them. But any suggestions or length and style for such a rod?

I know everyone here is all about the tuned up custom rods. I’m asking about thorne bros because I have a gift card and dont need much else

Depends on what your idea of a dead stick is. Me, I use a bobber and just need a fast tip glass rod to set the hook and reel in that 30″ walleye. I see some talk about people not using a bobber and just tie a jig and minnow and want a noodle style rod to see the bite. But your limited to the weight of the jig combo because the light tip. Thorns dead stick is a glass rod with a ML tip. Do not know if it will work bobber less or not. But a Thorn give card is a good gift and its my birthday next August LOL

It would basically be a walleye rod or lighter for bobber set ups. Thank you big crappie I appreciate the input. I wouldn’t normally spend that money on a rod for bobber fishing. But the gift card will make it all worth while

Not much of a help, but I snagged the Glacial Lakes King Perch rod that popped up in the classifieds a few weeks ago. I found it to be perfect for this setup. I know it wasn’t designed for it, but the action and tip of the rod really worked well for deadsticking Walleye with fatheads in the limited use so far this season.

Thanks eagle I appreciate the input. I fish crappie mostly and jumbo perch by my house. But I wouldn’t mind using it for eyes on red when I know the average is below 20. I’m not looking to slay the beast with this rod but dont want it limited to 1 fish species only.

I have a 32″ Deadstick from Thorne Brothers. I like it a lot. Any other rod i would say go with the syncork handle as I have them on nearly all my other TB rods. Very lightweight and feels great in the hands.

I have the 8″ Tennessee cork on mine. If you plan on changing out the reel often you may want to try one of the handles with a reel seat.

32″ is good. If i would do it again i would get a 36″. The longer the rod the easier it is to fight the fish.

I use a 32″ panfish sweethearts for my bobber setups. They easily handle bigger fish and have a light tip for tensioning the line before hookset. It’ll double duty as an awesome finesse jigging rod too.

Another option, get a 30+” power noodle. They can be great deadstick for dangling minnows sans bobbers. I prefer them over the traditional deadstick blank. The longer Powernoodles taper to enough backbone to guide bigger walleye to the hole. This can also serve as a noodle type jigging rod for crappie, possibly even perch.

Third option. Get a dedicated ugly stick for running a bobber and pickup something like a Quiverstick sniffer for panfish.

Yeah I think I want to go with the 36 I really like the longer rods I have plenty of jigging sticks for both crappy sunnies and walleye that’s why I wanted to go with the Dead stick some I could use on all three hopefully

I have one and I found that the rod has the needed backbone but the tip is a little too light and the transition a little too sharp for deadsticking. Great rod, just not what I felt was a good rod for the application.

I have the 32″ deadstick rod from Thorne Bros. It would be better as a 36″ length.

The syncork handle was mentioned. It is a nice option, but check out the Winn grip. Best handle in the ice market, IMHO.

Awesome thank you. Another ido follower emailed me and gave me a steel of a deal on a 32 inch walleye dead stick so now the opportunity has come. What else do you spend a free 125 bucks at thorne bros on.

I will be picking up a couple Sniffers (Tripwire spring on a quiverstick) sometime soon. I think those will run you around 125.

Honestly though, just spend an hour in the store. I am sure you will find something to use the gift card on.

Not to Hi-Jack the thread at all, but I am not on the TUCR bandwagon, but I do like my Thorne Bros rods. If anyone is looking to part with their Thorne Bros rods, feel free to PM me

Hi guys, I just ordered a 32″ Perch Sweetheart from TB. Lonnie called today to let me know it is ready. I chose the “hidden hood” handle on that one. I’d like to have a power noodle made next. I’m thinking 32″ with the locking cork handle. I don’t know anything about that handle. Thoughts ?

I have 32 inch walleye sweetheart, it would make a great bobber rod I guess, but why buy a bobber rod that cost over a 100 bucks, just a thought. DK. Thorne Bros has many different rods ..see if they still have those TFO,ice rods I have a couple they make great dead stick, rod.

That’s the one handle I never tried. I thought it was too fat a grip for my liking. They make some nice seated handles with the Fuji sk2 components if your interested in other, possibly lighter, seat options.

If you are looking for a dead stick I would look at the JT snare rod.

I bought a 32 inch thorne brothers walleye deadstick and love it. Caught a bunch of fish this last weekend on red with it and it’s a awesome rod very happy with it. One day I want to try a jt rod. I hear plenty of good from them
