This is why I hunt…

I have 3 boys and so far 2 of them are of age that they are able to potentially shoot their own deer (16 and 11). My oldest harvested a very nice deer and as you can see in this pic, my boys are having a blast!
My “middle man” is having some hardships/bad luck, but that didn’t take away from the excitement for his brother in getting this buck.
This is the reason I hunt. It is so much fun, a lot of work, but these guys make it worth it. I just hope the luck tips toward my middle boy and he has success because he is an excellent hunter for his age, but just had some bad luck. Missed 2 deer at very close range the last two years (1 on opening morning). Both were under 30 yards with a scoped rifle. So, he probably had the yips. -)

The stories these kids come up with are just hilarious. Last year my oldest though he saw a wolverine, turned out to be a Fisher. This year he had another hunter walk down the trail toward him, unaware he was there and he calls me to tell me “there is some creepy guy staring at me, oh, he waved at me and now turned around”. LOL I told him the guy probably didn’t know you were there and was just looking for a spot to setup. When he saw you, he just wanted to make sure you saw him and then waved and went back where he came from. At any rate, 4 minutes after that guy turned back, this buck walked by directly behind my son. He had to turn around and in the process knocked the bottle of pepsi from his stand to the ground. The buck jumped and turned back, but didn’t run. He made a great shot.

That pic tells it all!!!!! Great job getting the kids in the outdoors, it’s not a very common thing anymore. Also congrats to your son on his buck waytogo

I really miss the days of mentoring my kids. They are 26 now and claim to know more than Dad now whistling Some very fond memories of the younger years.

    Thanks!
Trust me, they claim they know more than me! LOL
My oldest son commented that “I didn’t tell him the deer would come from that direction” so he wasn’t expecting one to be there. LOL

I remember being the kid in that picture. A moment that can never be duplicated.
