First off it was a beautiful night on the water with the kid. Caught 3 walleye, a few big bass and the 36 inch pike who had some nasty teeth marks on both sides of him. I want to catch the fish that did this.

Nice fish. Tough to tell from the picture but could it have been an eagle or something that tried to grab it?
FinnyDinDinPosts: 865June 12, 2023 at 10:21 pm #2207886Nice fish. May have been a prop scar. Big esox like to sun themselves in open water after the spawn and chase bait. Can be a dangerous venture.
AK GuyPosts: 1428June 12, 2023 at 11:09 pm #2207890Laura knows where that fish is.
Hilarious. I about spit my Kinetico water all over my iPad.
LabDaddy1Posts: 2486June 13, 2023 at 4:00 am #2207897That fish is not in good shape. I think carter may be on to something with the eagle thing. Or maybe osprey. Look more like talon scars than fish jaw scars.
That said, I know big pike and muskies will take a swing at just about anything in distress, despite size… sooo. Who knows
June 13, 2023 at 4:27 am #2207898I don’t think it was prop wounds, hard to say if bird or another fish. He was pretty beat up on both sides of him.
mnmarlinPosts: 83June 13, 2023 at 6:58 am #2207904I should have taken a better picture. This picture was taken by my 12 year old. So between my phone being junk and my kids photography skills, this is what I get lol
June 13, 2023 at 7:54 am #2207912I’d also guess it was from a bird. It most likely happened during the spawn when the fish was up in shallow water.
June 13, 2023 at 8:05 am #2207914I was just thinking it would have to be a pretty big musky to leave some wound that wide. There are definitely fish of that size around depending on where you were at… so could be.

Well we both know there are plenty of eagles right in this same spot

Few years ago the now ex caught a 51 while throwing a wacky worm in the Lilly pads.

Nice catch either way

It looked like it was a pretty fresh war battle, he was ripped up on the otherside as well. He got blood all over the carpet from where I set the net down. I did cat a walleye that had alot of nastiness on him but it was 2 spots the size of a half dollar.
June 13, 2023 at 9:11 am #2207937I’ve seen muskies early in the year with soars on their sides that I was told was due to spawning.

I have seen this also. Those spawning bruises look way different than this.
June 13, 2023 at 10:23 am #2207954I caught a musky on a 20″ walleye I was reeling in on ML, and the bite marks were about 14″ apart. A couple bites could easily do that much damage imo. Tough to say without a better picture but feel like talon marks would be more noticeable. C’mon son you’re 12 now make sure the fish fills the frame and no one can see the background!

Damn kid can fortnite with the best of them but give him a camera and he usually gets half the fish in the pic. This was one of the better ones he’s taken
duh queenPosts: 547June 13, 2023 at 11:16 am #2207975I caught a 32″ laker in Sag one year that had escaped a raptor. Deep talon tears in both flanks. This guy got skinned. Definitely a prop hitting him perpendicularly.

Both sides looked like this. That’s why I assumed it was a fish grabbing him. But honestly I unhooked it snapped a pic and released it with out to much more investigation
