Thinking of getting a TUCR

I’m thinking of purchasing a tuned up custom rod, but I don’t know which one to buy. I’m from Escanaba Michigan, on Bay De Noc. I need a rod that could handle big walleyes, some over 10 pounds. I’m debating on the Admiral, or the commander. Any information would be appreciated.

I would probably have to say commander depending on how big of lures you are using, length is up to you, good luck!

I seen some of the TUCR rods at scheels…..with that said I tried so hard to justify spending 100 but all 4 rods they carried felt so cheap to me. Also not having a seat for my reel was a downer for me I hate tapping on the reel! I could get 2-3 quality rods for that price! I think they are just hype for people to say they have a “custom” rod!

That’s the nice part about a custom rod, have it built with a reel seat handle. Personal preference, I will only use tape in the winter.

If the TUCR’s “felt so cheap” to you because they’re LIGHTER than other rods, LIGHTER is NOT cheap. Light weight rods of comparable power are more sensitive than heavier rods. Like with sports cars, it’s expensive and takes expertise to make the lightest and highest performing fishing rods.

Yeah….I like a really heavy, cumbersome ice rod. I also like a reel seat made out of lots and lots and lots of plastic. The more plastic the better. Hopefully this will make rod completely unbalanced while also removing any tactile feel to the rod.

I was also a guy that would have never spent money on a custom rod. But after biting the bullet and trying one, all my rods are custom now. I like the fact they use REC guides as well. Top of the line, get it YOUR way rods are what you pay for. I have no problem justifying the money.

BTW to answer the original posters question, go with the Commander. I have one, its for when I go to Winnipeg for big greenbacks. I actually was debating this same thing of getting an admiral, but I am going to the St. Paul ice show on Saturday and will probably order another Commander.

I’ll attest that TUCR are far from cheap and to say that it’s “just hype” is almost accusing John & Adam of ripping folks off.
Everyone puts different value on a dollar. Some people don’t think twice about paying $100 for a marginal meal at a restaurant or plowing through a $100 playing pulltabs.
I view it as an investment in a hobby that I really enjoy, just like buying quality tools for woodworking.

I promise you that they can increase your catch rate due to how they can present a jig and detecting light bites.

If it was hype word would spread very quickly and sales would plummet, just the opposite is happening.

    Sorry for the mini-rant! waytogo
