Any recommendations on this? Which would be better for a trout angler?

Thinking About Getting A Go Pro?

Also look at the Garmin Virb Elite, they both have great mounting options, the feature I believe you would want is the ability to turn on and off, snap pictures during video recording, and do this while your hands are full in an instant in a watery environment. Look to see the features of the remote ,if available for the unit. Otherwise, I believe both cameras use Sonys best camera.
February 5, 2015 at 8:22 am #1507318If you buy used beware the older GoPros such as the Hero2. They shoot great but the underwater case has design flaws causing the footage to be blurry. The newer GoPros do not have that problem.
If you do buy an older unit check out this modification. It worked for my Hero2.

I played with these JVC cameras at ICAST and was very impressed. The low light capabilities was awesome.

Very powerful. It would allow you to do some pretty awesome slow motion casting, fish jumps etc. It would be hard to recommend another POV camera, they are number 1 for a reason. The integration with your smart phone is another great aspect…pretty astounding.
If you’re not looking to spend that kind of money for features you may never use, I would still steer you to a GoPro Hero White which still is a great camera with less features but at a more reasonable price.
February 5, 2015 at 9:29 am #1507364I have a Sony Action Cam AS30, and it’s pretty impressive. I made my own clamp mount and pole for it, and ordered a head mount online. It’s full wifi, and has an almost realtime display on my phone.
February 5, 2015 at 9:41 am #1507372I don’t own a POV yet. still looking. the battery life on the JVC may be an issue this review says. for remote use a long lasting battery would be a must.

How is battery life on the other brands?
February 5, 2015 at 9:52 am #1507379I know that’s my one knock with the GoPros, I wish there was better battery life but it’s not bad. The cold really decreases it, which is not helpful when your doing ice fishing shows.
The original Hero 3 Black will go roughly an hour and 30 minutes of continuous shooting, and the Hero 3+ Black around two hours, so a little bit of an improvement.
I would say in winter conditions you are looking around an hour for the 3 black and an 1.5 hours on the 3+.
The 4 black has a redesigned battery and I think it will do about 2 hours also, same as the 3+.

x2. I did quite a bit of research on this in the fall and would go with the 4. Check out the Sony HDR AS100V as well.
March 10, 2015 at 2:39 pm #1521827I have a gopro black 3plus. I love it it takes great pics and good quality video. I like cranking the fps up to do some slow videos.
Here a short clip I made using the gopro a little bit this hunting season.

I’m not an expert on any of the cameras, but a friend of mine said the GoPro is great, lighter… and the Garmin Verb is heavier. But its heavier because of a bigger battery. Lasts 3-4 hours vs. GoPro at 2.
Everything is a trade off..
March 10, 2015 at 3:17 pm #1521845Len, take a look at http://www.mycapcam.com/. I’ve handled them and I think they are quite good for the price. Lots of mounting options and good quality video.
artifishalPosts: 216April 7, 2015 at 11:04 am #1531861Might be a little late to the party, but I own two gopro cameras (Hero 4 Silver, Hero 3+ Black). Like stated above, the battery life is the only real issue I have with them especially when working with the cameras in cold weather (Ice fishing). However, I have bought extra/spare batteries and I also have purchased a portable battery charger that is able to charge anything from cell phones to camera batteries and more. As a result, I am able to charge dead camera batteries while out in the boat or I can plug my camera into the charger and run it all day long.
Here is a clip of filming with the GoPro Hero 4+:I apologize for the obnoxious wind/background noise. It’s hard filming in 25+ MPH winds!
April 7, 2015 at 1:01 pm #1531921I have gotten the SJ4000 and it seems to be working just fine for way less.
They have non-wifi vers for $73 bucks. You can get a 2 pack of batteries and a charger for Under $25 off ebay.
the SJCAM WIFI stuff runs off your phone and not a separate remote like the gopro has which is what I like.
