I’ve lost 3 cell phones. Yeah, hopefully learned my lesson now. And my brother lost a Glock 26. He was not very happy about that one.

How does one loose a hand gun down a hole. Hope he went magnet fishing

Nearly exactly like Merican Eagle expereinced, except it didn’t stop. We tried magnets, but it was in the mud on mille lacs. She’s probably 20″ deep.

Once in HS @Weedis borrowed his sisters brand new Nokia phone so he could be reached on the ice, as no one else had a phone yet, she read him the riot act about taking care of it and not losing it. No sooner did we setup than it went straight to the bottom of the lake, and I’ll be damned if it didn’t immediately start ringing with a call from HOME rotflol jester rotflol

Cell phone of course, down a sight hole. Watched to land in some weeds in 16ft of water. Ran home, grabbed a net and some conduit. Taped em together and somehow scooped it up on the first try! It was still working for a couple hours, but must have started to corrode. Ended up being toast.

Also, Lost my big buddy down a sight hole on last years trout opener while trying to set up in the dark. Luckily had a big pike rod with and was able to horse it back up. Got it working that day after sitting next to friends heater for a couple hours. Pilot light was goofy for a couple weeks but must have eventually fully dried out internally. Works like a champ to this day!

The most memorable thing for me happened a couple years ago on LOTW

The boys JUST got brand new $350 glasses. Like literally the day before our trip….You know where this is going but it gets better….

It was bed time and the kids were putting them on the shelf. I hear “OH NO!!” Followed by immediate screaming and crying.

I turned around to see $350 dollars slowly sinking down the hole. I knelt down and braced one hand on the floor next to my rod and reached down to my armpit with the other….just to feel the glasses on the tips of my fingers as they sunk into 33′ of water.

    Now for the fun part.

When I stood up I found a Chubby Darter buried in the hand I used to brace myself….Ugghhhhh

Talk about adding insult to injury (or perhaps injury to insult lol)

The shack was complete CHAOS with the dogs barking and everyone screaming and crying (Mom and Dad included lol) I’ll never forget it

I took four shots of Fireball and got the pliers out smash

The next day I dropped the camera down every hole, nothing. I drilled holes all around the shack outside, and still nothing. They must have planed far off to the side like an airplane jig.

My dad had a strong magnet that was salvaged from an old stereo speaker and it was attached to 50 feet of paracord, all kept in the cabinet of the fish house.

I saw that setup rescue half a dozen ice dippers, a couple of rods/reels, and a Coleman lantern. The way that round magnet would “flutter” on the way to the bottom, it could easily go 10 feet to the side of the hole, so it might take 20 or 30 drops to get it to fall on the right spot, but if it was steel, that magnet would get it eventually.

I have wondered how many cell phones are currently at the bottom of MN lakes. I’ve sent one of them to Davy Jones’ Locker myself. If you find a Samsung from circa 2005 at the bottom of Lake Pepin, I don’t want it back.

Fishing sucked in my buddies icehouse years ago so forgo the rod and just kept my beers in the hole to get cold, bud light.

Threw in a full strength Bud just to watch it sink, along with my heart.

Ah yes, won’t forget that one big werm! Unfortunately that instance was just the beginning of my phone’s going down the hole for me. I am up to 4-5 total and the most recent two weeks ago. Needless to say I pay the extra for insurance. I lived up in Hibbing for a few years and I was checking out this small lake in the area. I was making swish cheese of the ice trying to find some fish and on about 100th hole, no idea if that is accurate but it was a bunch, the screw for my auger came out and down goes the auger! Not that I needed any more kicks to the nuts but first pull trying to start the sled the damn recoil broke. I did mark the spot where the auger came off and went back with a big magnet but no dice finding it. To many holes and gps prolly wasnt pin point accurate. Heck of a trip on my own in the middle of no where with zero cell service.

Lost the nose piece to my cpap machine on Lake of the woods. When we got up to put gas in the generator, down she went I was pissed. The next AM, I’m jigging away and feel weight. Yep, caught the nose piece. Buckshot was with me…

My son kicked my pillow off the bed while he was playing in a LOTW sleeper this year…landed in the slush beneath the shack. It took one of my deadsticks down with it. Both were wet and slushy but didn’t make it down the hole. Dad was impressed.

Auger bit…I couldn’t how it went straight down the hole and never touched the sides. It’s in about 24’ of water on Lake Harriet.

Lost a dead stick last winter. Stepped out of the portable to pee and came back to it gone. I was very confused for a few seconds…then I realized it was likely attached to a pike. I don’t just lay the dead sticks on the ice anymore….

4 of us in a day shack on LOTW, just opened a new traveler of fireball and took a snort. Buddy on other side said pass that on over. Tossed it across shack, hit him in the chest and slid straight down his belly right down the hole.

    Hearing aid – almost.

A couple weeks ago I fished alone all morning on a small lake and I got skunked. Piled all my gear in my sled about 1:00PM and pulled it to my car. As I began to pull away from the parking area I noticed my right hearing aid was missing. I was shocked.

I parked the car again and started looking. Went carefully all around the car and then headed out onto the ice about 100 yards to where I had been fishing.

About 4″ of snow covered the lake and I was sure this would be a $1,700 loss. I shuffled along, looking frantically. I had drilled three holes and as I checked all around the area where I had been fishing I found the hearing aid! It was sitting on the bare ice about one inch from the edge of one of the holes. I could not believe it. I was almost afraid to touch it, fearing I might nudge it into the hole but all was okay. The hearing aid was fine. You have no idea of the relief I felt. I now leave both hearing aids in the car before I go out on the ice.

I hope you sent him home. That’s a criminal offense.

Yup, he’s fired. Or driving all the way to get another. And up there that can be a long travel

Should have taken a bigger snort of that traveler and it would have floated! Keep that in mind for next time.

Two weeks ago I took my daughter out, in the excitement of her catching her first ever walleye on a $30 Clam rod I lost my new St. Croix medium light and a new 13 Fishing straight line reel. I never even saw it go down — after we released the fish it was just gone.

I call it the $150 walleye.

p.s. for all of you have or will lose cell phones — I lost one off my kayak this year, and now won’t go out on the hard water or soft without a phone tether. Not sure if I’m allowed to link Amazon products here but just google “Rogue Fishing Co. The Protector Phone Tether”

Yeah, in hindsight finishing that bottle before noon would have been way better than the actual outcome.

My buddy was lost down the hole when he was a teenager. He was with his dad and somehow fell in a shallow spearing hole. We have encouraged him to get a metal plate in his noggin so that if it ever happens again, we can fish him out with a magnet.

You didn’t try a jig rap? My kid kicked mine down a few days ago and I retrieved it within 2 minutes with a jigging rap

I even had a Marcum cam and could never even find the thing, guessing it some took off like kind of underwater fighter jet.

last weekend i knocked the tv remote off the ledge and straight into a hole. luckily it was the last day of fishing for the weekend. i ordered a new one on amazon and will be attaching a float to this one jester what else has everybody lost?

Am I the only one who read “…knocked the TV remote off…” and thought it just didn’t sound right related to ice fishing? It’s like saying you need new vinyl siding on your camper.

Almost happened to a 19 of mine. Had it in a holster on the bed. Grabbed the blanket off the bed and the gun goes flying, landed a few inches from the hole…

Must be a Glock thing! Dang near lost a 19X down the hole the same way Merican Eagle nearly did!

After seeing more than a few cell phones so swimming, I no longer put anything in the chest pockets of my bibs….

What’s the difference besides a tv remote, cell phone, booze, fish whistles, guns? None of them are a necessity to ice fish either ???
