There will be a slight AR-delay.

Talk about a buzzkill. After much waiting for my latest toy to arrive (Mossberg MMR AR in .223), there will be…wait for it…yet more waiting.

Why? Because my beautiful AR disappeared from a UPS depot just before it was to be delivered. “Disappeared” is a euphemism, of course. It actually got stolen from under their noses.

Imagine my disappointment, I’m watching the UPS tracking page as my new toy makes it’s way to my open arms and then wammmo. Status goes from “out for delivery” to Package Damaged. See notes.

The notes said the damaged package was found but the “item” was missing. So I called UPS just to confirm, as the only “item” in the package was, in fact, a freaking AR15. Yes, as it turns out, it was gone. Swiped, presumably by one of their employees.

Needless to say, I voiced some amount of displeasure on the phone with the UPS representative. Not good.

So it’s back to square one. Of course, the dealer can send me another one. But wait, there’s more. They don’t have any more in stock, so will have to get one from a distributor. Which will take an additional 7-10 days.

If it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all. As I told by brother in law from England in a call this weekend, “What the hell is this country coming to when you can’t even mail-order an assault rifle without someone pilfering it?” Kwality.

That blows! Somewhere, there is a dude wearing my wakeboard boots while shooting your AR (similar thing happened to me). Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Not sure if it is too late or not but I would see if they could put your gun bix in a different box that was plain brown. I have a feeling that people are seeing the gun boxes and that is why it disappeared.

In a bizarre twist of fate, I got a call yesterday afternoon. From the FFL where my AR was supposed to be delivered. There’s a package here for you.

What the … I had heard nothing from UPS or from the retailer, so if the “lost” AR had somehow been found, nobody told me about it.

So I went to the FFL dealer and unwrapped the dinged/damaged box. Yep, it contained one Mossberg MMR Hunter in good condition.

A few phone calls later and I’m none the wiser as to what happened here. I can only imagine that somehow UPS got the word out that very bad things involving Federal law enforcement were about to happen unless the missing firearm was found and found quickly. But that’s just speculation.

So I’ve got an AR sitting in my safe. Better late than never.

I’ll post a report, but it’s going to be a while as I don’t have a lot of free weekends between now and Christmas.

That is really a very sad situation for an AR to endure. My G-d Grouse have you no feelings you mean son of a gun.

Well ok so I might have bore sighted it. And shot at a squirrel in the backyard a couple or 30 times.

Other than that I haven’t shot it.

Can I also just say that I can already verify that all the bad things you’ve heard about stock mil-spec AR triggers are true. And probably understated at that.

This is no surprise, btw, everyone warned me that this and every other AR in the Sub-$1k category would have a “challenging trigger”. Well, let me tell you…

In the case of my AR, the trigger breaks like glass. Which means that if you hit the trigger several times with a 12 pound hammer, it would eventually break like rough old safety glass. Right now it has about 3 miles of creep that feels like you are dragging the trigger over a rough gravel road. Then it breaks at a crisp 8.2 pounds. The trigger is so rough that there’s almost a pound of variation in the 10 pull averages. Yikes.

I no more than got the scope mounted and cleaned the factory gunk out of the barrel and action, and then I went upstairs and got to work on ordering parts for a trigger mod.

I love the smell of burning buffing compound in the morning…

Take it to bills for the quick clean up I think it is like $50 and a great trigger afterwards.
