The Zum's new normal

Right now this morning the lake is almost spot on at 4 3/4 feet over the dam. The lake level hasn’t seem but a small handful of days of no-wake this year. I’m pretty sure the crappies got the spawn wrapped up but did so in high water.

The dredging is still plugging along but if the target starting point is an elevation of 914.6 feet [top of the dam] and the average lake level has been two feet higher than the no-wake cut-of point I don’t see how the dredging is doing much more than scratching the top off a pimple.

The lake should be a quiet place this year but fishing those crappies will involve a whole new set of tactics. I’m hoping that the quiet allows some better recruitment from the fry and that larger fish are hard to find so we see some additional fish in the next couple years.

I have no plans to get on the water there until things return to normal but this high water stuff just might become the new normal.
