‘The wharf’
Where MEATLOAFING THE BAR was born
Friday July 4th weekend some 10yrs ago. 8pm.
Eating supper with a group of guys.
I walk up to jukebox. Insert $30
Pick MEATLOAF – I’ll DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE
10x
Then pick a slightly different meatloaf song.
Then ILL DO ANYTHING FOR LOVE
with the rest of the money.
Then I went and paid the bartender.
Looked back and grinned at the boys as i walked out the bar and had a smoke.
Meatloaf starts playing….
Bartender walks out of bar and asks me “did you play meatloaf?” I said enthusiastically “YES, TURN IT UP!!”
Bartender goes back into bar and cranks it up.
Few buddies find this whole deal odd and come outside ask me what’s up…I said…we gotta GO!
soooooo we left, then I told them what I did. We didn’t dare enter the rest of the weekend…
So a little about the song.. when you play it back to back, it’s hard to notice it ever ended… you might end up in this 10 minute repeating song for an hour before you notice…
Anyway. Fast forward to the next time im in the wharf.
6 months later, January, ice fishing, midnight. I step into the bar with a group of 10. The bartender takes one look at me, points his finger at me and hollered “MEATLOAF”!
Haha
Apparently they let it play until the bar closed that holiday weekend.
So if your ever in a bar and you hear meatloaf playing for more than 10 minutes… look around. I, or a buddy of mine is probably near by lol.
Not as much fun anymore because you can budge songs nowadays.
Good memories at the wharf
