Nightcrawlers are already starting to peak out here in the metro. I’ve never noticed them this early in the evening before. Is it like farm animals where they start getting weird right before a tornado?
Some marble sized hail and maybe 40 wind is all that came of it in Wabasha County…which is fine by me. Every time the general area gets hammered my rates go up no matter what I do/don’t do.
No hail at our house. Very tame wind too. .63 inch of rain. Rochester sits in a depression and true to form, this big whiz-banger went right around us. The clouds boiled nice though and we’re still seeing a lot of lightning an d hearing the thunder, but its becoming less frequent.
I haven’t heard anything from the local television station as to what happened with the four tornado warnings.
Looks like multiple days near 80 by the weekend. Here comes the bugs

My dog was definitely doing the “pressure-drop dance” tonight. Went for a walk right after the big line passed and the birds were going crazy(pressure was low and still dropping).

Couldn’t believe the bugs tonight. I got bit by at least a few mosquitoes and so many of those big gnats(?) were swarming. Those suckers bite as bad as mosquitoes!
At what point do the vast majority of people (many already do) disregard everything the weather terrorists say about impending weather? I mean honestly! It was supposed to be like Armageddon but for most it just got dark, some boomers and possibly a good amount of rain or small hail.
The rain barely registered on my gauge. I emptied it yesterday morning because it wasnt setup after the winter to capture fine amounts so I put the inside in. There was hardly anything in there after that. It did rain hard around 4 PM, but for like 10 minutes.
One thing is for sure it went from a mid 60 and VERY muggy afternoon to mid thirties this morning and windy.
I can see them cancelling outside practices but would rather they practiced until you saw lightning. Not only did they cancel outdoor stuff, they closed all school buildings for any inside activities. It sprinkled in Lakeville and I heard thunder once. Yes, it was windy for a bit too.

I think the majority here already think that lol
I try to post the weather with a grain of salt here. You might notice that. I initially posted about “possible severe weather” last week already and I made sure to use the word POSSIBLE.
That being said, weather is constantly changing and can be unpredictable. Even with modern data, technology, and highly paid meteorologists.
I got an inch of rain. That was all from the morning front. I got nothing in the evening.
There doesn’t appear to be much rain in the 7 day forecast now. Possible 80 degrees in a week. Are your air conditioners ready?
There was some big hail in some areas, this is from Beaver Creek. And a tornado in Faribault it sounds like, saw a video of a flattened barn with debris flung all over.

We know you like to post weather-related stuff and you are not paid to do that as in YOUR job so we do take it with a grain of salt.
Yes, most everyone here has given up on trusting the weather terrorists. I guess its better to be blindsided in a good way than a bad one. Its been trending the way of never as bad as they say it will be for a long time now.
Not all that long ago I remember multiple times in the winter they would call for a few inches of snow and then by morning I had like a foot or more of snow. It doesnt seem to happen that way anymore. Its always the opposite.
I hear ya. It does seem to operate like that more often now.
This recent system should have made a serious dent in the drought situation in western and northern MN. It will be updated by Thursday morning.

Thats good, it certainly didnt do much for our shortage, but we will get it at some time hopefully. The radar certainly looked impressive, but man those storms were moving fast like 45 to 50 mph so they didnt stick around long.
Oh I don’t know Capt, I see kids in the dead of winter outside with shorts, no coat. I see warning labels not to drink battery acid. Smoking, drugs & eggs are bad for your health. An then of course you have the “storm chasers” who defy death at every turn.
Yes, I can see having to tell people that when the sky turns black & green it’s not a good thing.
Common sense is no longer common.
eggs are bad for your health.
Eggs are bad now again?! Its hard to keep track. One minute they are good, the next they are bad.

Like the weather, it depends on who ,is making the statement.

I’ll sometimes throw stuff like that in a response to see who actually reads beyond the first sentence.

Eggs must be good for you with their elevated prices. In this country the healthy food is good for you, while food that harms you is cheap. Always follow the money.

I was told the prices have come 93% in the last few months so I think they’re bad again

No kidding! I was finding them a few weeks ago in the yard but that was some hard work. Last night they were literally crawling into the garage so in the box they went. If only the fish start jumping into the boat like the crawlers

I try to read each of your posts in entirety because otherwise I would certainly miss something sneaky! LOL

I’m confused on what you expect the “weather terrorists” (I assume you mean Meteorologists?) to do, predict the future? All they can do is rely on models pumped out by super computers, they then compare x amount of those different models and come up with an average of what they think could happen based on the information they have at that moment (which is then outdated a minute later, hence the updated modeling which takes alot of time to process)
There was a freight train of a storm system predicted to head towards the twin cities area in pretty much every model a few days ago (it takes people a day or two to pay attention so they put the warning out early) as the day went on yesterday morning it played out like the models predicted (hence the vast number of storm chasers in MN who were here because they thought it was the best chance to intercept storms, aka how they make a living)…
Then as it started to inch towards the Twin cities the air temps, wind shier, upper atmosphere measurables started to unexpectedly drop and the storm lost alot of it’s fuel/power, it then split in two (sparing the Twin Cities) and shrunk even more with St Cloud and Rochester areas getting hit with what was left over (still pretty good storms with a few recorded small tornados)
Obviously the idea is to error on the side of caution for forecasts, in regards to kids events getting cancelled last night for what turned out to be a normal storm for most folks, that’s a hell of alot better than School gym flattened by tornado killing hundreds attending a basketball game inside…
I agree SOME outlets (news, internet) will overhype it to get viewership, but it’s in a Meteorologists best interest to get it as right as possible so their future warnings don’t get ignored and they are left looking like idiots… they do the best they can…
Novak Weather mentioned “Red Flags” and said he had seen much more slam dunk severe weather setups that didn’t get as much attention.
He’s pretty solid. He will definitely engage in the extremists perspectives a bit (pushing snow totals more than most), or noting “major” temperature changes from one day to the next as if 10-15 degree swings aren’t common here…..but for the most part he’s as good as there is.
When I got home from work at 5:30 my girls were home because gymnastics was cancelled. Driveway was dry and the sun was out. I dont think it even rained.

This is the key part of your post right here. It’s very inconsistent across the board based on who your source is.
Some are realistic and down to earth, flatly admitting that there is not an exact science to it. While others are pure terrorists. They hype up everything possible, most of which does not come to fruition.
If they would just admit that their predictions “could” be wrong, I think that would go a long ways.
And the other issue is that when they’re so far off from their previous predictions of doom and gloom, there’s no ramifications. It’s just “oh well” I missed again. Only in a political and meteorological realm can someone get away with lying and being so far off without any repercussions.
My definition of weather terrorists are all the media outlets including their reporters, meteorologists, anchors and even the sports guy ranting about an upcoming weather event like they did yesterday. Its just a ratings opportunity for them. Did they happen to name the squall we got yesterday??

Come on Joe. You are smarter than that. You know exactly what I am talking about. Its not necessarily the meteorologists reporting what the computers are spitting out. Its all the chaos that ensues AFTER they make some comments about what the computers are saying.
Closing a hair salon early because of potential for storms?! Really! We have come to this point?! Naming winter storms like Hurricanes? Where does this end?
No after school activities and all the adult league softball was cancelled and by the time the games would have been played it was blue sky but windy here.
I am not aware of any tornadoes that actually touched down everything I saw was radar indicated (which alerting people about this of course is fine). There might have been 1 tornado near Faribault, but that could have certainly been straight-line winds.
Did they happen to name the squall we got yesterday??
If they did I certainly missed it LOL
All I use the weather media for is to start my awareness (there’s a storm likely in a few days) then do your own homework if it applies to you…

I guess I don’t get why you care if a hair salon owner decides to close their shop early? That’s their decision… Not sure what outlets you watched, but I typically watch channel 11 or 4 for local news and they simply laid out what was possible a day or so ago (based on the models) and then tracked the storms yesterday afternoon and early evening providing details of what the radar and people on the ground were telling them…I didn’t notice any chaos?
I’ll give you props in that National Hurricane coverage in just silly nowadays though…but that’s multiple National stations all trying to compete for viewers, so I get it and expect it…and for every few dud storms, there’s always a chance for another Andrew or Catrina that kills alot of people…
Hurricanes actually don’t kill a lot of people. They just cause catastrophic damage to infrastructure and property. That’s mostly because we can see them coming and evacuate.
Heat waves are the silent killers here. Heat waves cause higher mortality than all the other extreme weather events combined each year.
