I haven’t seen anything yet here in Rochester…. maybe some intermittent fine drizzle. Our predicted snow totals have dropped some too. I’d be fine with this just staying south of us. Rain would be fine. I don’t have to shovel water. Last night at the 6 weather things sounded pretty dire. It took almost 6 minutes to show the list of closings and read thru it on one channel.
Why can’t these ridiculous weather reports simply say “we might get some snow tomorrow and if we do it might be heavy in places”.
Lived in MN my whole life, 65+ and this has been one of the weirdest winters I remember. Without snow from this storm, it’s 5-6 times we’ve had snow and it’s melted completely. That should be great for my dormant seeded grass seed. Plus mild temps with a couple good cold stretches that made thicker ice than we’ve had in several years. Last year I started open water fishing Minnetonka on March 6th!! Going to be a while yet.

Just saw an update and they are still predicting 4″+ for Rochester.
Weather forecasting relies on 3 primary models for storms. The American model, the GFS model, and the European model.
The American and GFS tend to often be more aggressive. While the euro is more submissive. The American model had over a foot of snow forecasted a couple days ago to some areas, including Rochester.
Yesterday morning a blizzard warning was issued for my area with 5 to 9 inches of snow. While the wind has arrived, I don’t think I will be receiving any snow.
There’s some snow on grassy areas, but the sidewalks and streets seem to be melting. Plenty of wind. We get some bursts of heavier snow, then quiet times with hardly anything coming down. If it holds onto what we’ve been getting we’ll be ok. My digital, which is very accurate, shows 34 degrees yet. Hasn’t moved off of 34 degrees since about 4:30 this morning. The neighbor’s driveway has some snow on it but doubtful it’s an inch.
A system arriving tonight into tomorrow will start off as rain and change to snow again. Northern MN could see 6 inches or more. Southern half is mostly to see rain with minimal snow accumulation.
I just assume it all be rain at this point but we do need moisture.
We will take rain here along Pool 4 if it isn’t in excess before the frost goes.
We need the frost to finish working out and once that goes the moisture would really help. I’d wager we have 8-10” of surface thaw with a foot or so of remaining frost beneath that.
So far this storm really has not amounted to much. I would guess a little rain and a 1/4″ of crusty snow. I really hope this is all we get.
Seems like a weather update was due.
An incoming system tomorrow will be rain, rain/snow mix, or snow depending on where you are located and where the rain/snow line sets up. Right now that line appears to be about 30 miles north of the Twin Cities. The backside will have colder air on Sunday.
There is also another chance of a rain/snow mix system next Tuesday into Wednesday.
I am currently under a severe thunderstorm warning and then a winter weather watch. It’s nasty out right now.
Mid week is projected for 7 inches of snow. Please no.
Here in Carlton the ground was covered with pea size hail. The thunder was non-stop for about 10 minutes. Now its just windy and cold.

Pretty crazy wasn’t it???
I was in the shop rigging up new batteries and charger in the boat when it started.
We got enough that I had shovel the walkways at my house
The second pic is 4″ deep where it rolled off the roof of the house, the other looking out the shop door.
Just sleet up here today. Gotta love it when one of the local “fishing guides” leaves their garbage behind. We picked up what we could after he took off his fleet of houses he had guarding “his spot” and left his crap behind.
My gutters filled up with the pea size hail and now it is more then likely a frozen mess with inch of sloppy snow. The forecast is not all that great for the up coming week. In like a lamb and out like a lion I guess.
We had 84 on the digital yesterday at 4pm. 39 right now. Sat in the lawn chairs and read for an hour until the sun got too warm. Actually got a lot done with the yard work too.
We could have used some rain but all we seen or heard out of all the weather around us yesterday was lightning and occasional thunder.
