Yes! Next weeks forecast looks excellent for end of February. Hopefully that means the groundhog got it wrong.

Listen to the birds. They are starting to change tunes. The ground hog has got it wrong I’d say. Once the birds change tunes it’s usually a 2 week warning that the weather will be changing. And I noticed them change tunes 1 week ago.

The beginning of the end of winter always depresses me at first.

Speaking of birds… Ive mentioned it earlier in this thread, but any of you notice birds the last few winters that should have migrated but didnt? I have seen and heard Robins and bluebirds (yes, bluebirds) this winter and only a few weeks ago. It was when it warmed up after our last cold blast, but it still wasnt that warm.

Do killdeer migrate? We have a ton of them that just randomly showed up a couple weeks ago that look beyond lost in these temps and the little bit of fresh snow we have. They were my first clue to an impending change, but they definitely jumped the gun a bit it seems if they do in fact migrate.

Wow. Bluebirds and Killdeers in winter is something I have never seen.
cool. I heard once that evolution has birds coming back early or not leaving to gain better breeding territory. I have seen Robbin’s doing it my whole life.

I haven’t seen much for birds for several weeks except for a couple of bald eagles last week on Tonka. There’s a spring fed creek that crosses the back of my lot and I usually see robins most of the winter. Haven’t seen many this winter and for the last 3-4 weeks the creek is frozen over.

Lots of Canada geese stick around all winter now it seems too. I see them on the river pretty much all winter long.

Seeing a robin in February seems odd too but it’s happening more often.

The warmup is coming. I’m with Lindy. Winter can go away now, it’s getting close to March. Then it’ll be daylight savings.

Going to be a great weekend to get out ice fishing. Deeing temps in the mid to upper 30’s for both Sat. and Sun. I hope I can shake this Sinus cold I’m fighting before Sat. I think a full day out in the brutal cols last Sat. was what started the sinus cold in the 1st place.

The girls wanted to sled yesterday all afternoon on the hill and today they want the bounce house outside on the bare lawn.

Drove over and watched the people climb the ice walls and then went over and watched the little kids on the sledding hill.

    Certainly felt better than -25.

Bluebirds are one of the first to return. I don’t think the same is true of killdeer. Most years I have seen Bluebirds by March 1st. I haven’t seen one yet, but thought I heard one a week ago.

It didnt get below freezing here last night. Everything is wet, our snow took a savage beating yesterday. It was decent in the morning to early afternoon, but looking outside now it will be gone after tomorrow I imagine.

Bluebirds and killdeer would be unusual. Robins are always here year-round. The real signs of spring are the red-wing blackbirds arriving, and the Juncos leaving for points north. Usually real spring arrives about 2 weeks after the blackbirds. Based only on my 20 years of observation driving around the Metro all day.

No Juncos here so far today or all of yesterday. They’ve been very consistent here all winter.

The crows didn’t make their daily exodus back in town the last couple nights either so maybe they’re begin to pair up and nest now. I see eagles every day along the river behind us but the nest a couple miles north of here that’s had a nesting pair for several years is not showing any activity at all.

Our snow is all gone and the dog stared out the window at a pair of morning doves this morning.
