The metro areas have far more kids who walk or bike to school, or wait for busses in community/neighborhood designated spots versus rural schools where tons of kids are dropped off at the door by parents, or have a bus that pulls into their driveway.

There are tons of rural schools closed too. In today’s litigious “it’s not our fault” society, schools have no choice but to play it safe.

guess i’m not privy to what transportation for schools in the gig metro are, so makes sense.

and dutchy……i totally agree………i see the neighbor gal out and about in this……she dresses like 40 above in this crap!!!!!!! doah bawling chased

The Boys have an eye doctor appointment in the morning, so they were going to be late anyway.

When I told them the school called and said there’s a two-hour delay, they said “it’s not fair” and they should be able to show up late the next day to make up for it jester

Ohhhh my…the minds of 4th Graders at work rotflol

(I probably would have said the same thing back in the day) mrgreen

Models are showing a pretty massive warm up next week. Temps as high as 40 are possible as early as Tuesday.

Historically, the last week of January is the coldest week of the year.

There is no significant snow in the 10 day forecast either. The MSP airport is a whopping 16.7 inches behind on snowfall now.

Locations such as Dallas, Little Rock, Nashville, and Atlanta have all recorded more snow this winter than the Twin Cities.

The thing that I read thought we would have warmer then normal temps till the end of February and then it would start to be more snowy. Works for me !!

I just got back from South Dakota the wind was stupid, I got back monday and it felt like a heatwave without the wind.

Side note. Anybody have brake claipers randomly start leaking in extreme cold?

Pretty far off, but some of the long range models (that at best bat .500 on predicting weather) show a substantial system during the PM next week Friday.

If that doesn’t come to be, we may set historical marks for the lack of snowfall and snowcover in parts of MN as we turn the calendar to February. Here along Pool 4 there’s exactly 0.0″ of snowcover.

Hearing/seeing the same thing bucky. Gurus and models are hinting at a change in pattern end of next week. Image is from a model prediction for next Friday. Wonder if this winter could be a repeat of ’18/’19 when it started snowing the beginning of February and didn’t quit until end of March?

That low pressure system could affect us around Jan 31/Feb 1. Some models show it passing to the south and some show what Joe has above.

That was a pretty wild winter! Snow was nearly 4 feet deep on the level in my yard end of March. Lost all my pictures on my phone or I would post them.

This is getting to the part of winter I start getting grumpy. Sick of being cold. And the 25-30mph wind forecast for the weekend up north will not help.

Going to need to anchor down the Hubs today!

No kidding! My son and his friend were setup on mille lacs and fished all last night. Fishing slowed so they were going to move and then what he says was like a 40mph wind gust came up and an anchor broke. Not sure if it’s the strap itself or where it attaches to the house. He’s not happy and I know that’s my fault because I told him I don’t care if he uses my stuff but if he breaks it he replaced it. Well this was not his fault and I don’t know the extent of the damage. I told him it wasn’t his fault and we would figure it out.
At least more weather guessers are coming to the idea of one if not two storms coming starting next weekend.

I parked behind my truck and it was still moving me a bit. Looks like we have a couple more days of this wind before it calms down.

Most of the models now have that low pressure system sliding well to our south this weekend (and as all rain). There’s only a 20% chance of precipitation as of now.

The high tomorrow at MSP is predicted to be 43 degrees, which isn’t far off from the record. Several warm days this week, with a return to colder temps again by next week.

…and just like that there’s no real precipitation anywhere in the 10 day forecast after a lot of the Facebook expert meterologists were talking about how active the first week of February would be.

We could/should hit 50 degrees here along Pool 4 on Thursday with no snowcover and dark ground sucking in the sunlight. Let’s just flip the switch to Spring and be done with yet another Winter of no snowfall.

Going backwards again instead of forward with snow cover.

I’m happy we have decent Ice but the lack of snow is just depressing to look at it and even more depressing when you have a snowmobile. I’m glad I made it up to the UP to ride but this just sucks.
