I don’t recall what year exactly but I remember deer hunting opening weekend with high’s in the upper 60’s then 11in of snow before second weekend. Things can and do change in a hurry but a normal fall would be nice. I don’t like going from summer to winter in a week.

I remember that year too and it wasn’t all that long ago. Maybe 10 years ago? It was so cold I put a big buddy heater in our pop up blind and on full bore it barely made it warmer. The trees were popping too it was so cold.

I put the A/C on today

I also used the A/C this past weekend in my truck while running around upland hunting. Way too hot for that too.

That’s why I haven’t bird hunted yet. I don’t do that until it actually feels like fall. The dog appreciates it too.

The one I’m thinking about was longer than that because my oldest wasn’t very big and I had to carry everything in about a quarter mile to where we were going to sit. We didn’t hunt in 2020 so you are probably right it happened again.

Ticks will be out and about as long it remains mild out. I can recall finding a few last March when it was already so warm.

News flash: ticks are out and about even when it’s cold. Pick hundreds off the dog in “normal” octobers/novembers when lows are well below freezing overnight(while grouse hunting). The warmth definitely doesn’t help, though.

Woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of about three raindrops outside my open window. Forgot what that sounded like down here in the far south metro. Thankfully it looks like the dry spell may be coming to end with at least a little rain in the extended forecast. But temps will likely stay above normal for the foreseeable future.

I make my first trip up north grouse hunting sun-tues and I see highs around 70 degrees forecasted there. For cripes sake.

I’m with ya on that one. Last year it really never got there. Even December was very warm.

Dont you people treat your dogs for ticks? That is pretty irresponsible IMO. You wont need to pick them off they just die and fall off if you do.

I use the monthly topical stuff (like K9 Advantix or Front line). Its a bit of a mess for about 2 days but its effective.

Some people use the pills. But in order for that to work, the tick has to actually bite the dog. So your dog could still come in the house with 30 ticks on it. That’s a no go for me and even a bigger no go for my wife.

I have been using front line for many years. It does nothing to repel ticks.
It kills them when they bite. I have de-ticked my dogs countless times after Grouse hunting and its always frustrating. I have also picked many blood filled ticks off my treated dogs days later so its not 100% effective.

Interesting. I have never had that issue when I have used whatever product we have. Dont have any ticks on him as long as we follow the reapplication recommendations. Last year we got started late and he had like 100 on him! That was terrible.

There is actually a pretty good chance at some measureable rain on Thursday evening. A decent swath of moisture is expected to form in western MN and make its way eastward across the state from about Mankato to the Canadian border. Perhaps half an inch to an inch of rain in some areas.

I’ll believe it when it happens.

That would make Friday morning and great morning to bow hunt if some one is stalking a buck.

Just cleaned up much of my neighbors leaves (blown in my yard) while my big sugar maple laughs at me with all its leaves still intact.

I mowed over the yard three times to mulch the leaves to powder. Meanwhile, my two maples and one cottonwood on the creek bank are still holding well over half of their leaves. It’s not over, not by a long shot.

Everything outside that isn’t covered has a thick coating of dust on it. With all the wind and the crops coming out, driving across any flat farm country almost looked like something out of the dust bowl last weekend. Rain will be welcome to hopefully wash some of that away.

I’ve also been mulching some leaves and its a dust storm. I had to put a mask on it was so bad. Plus the mower was bouncing all over because the ground was like concrete.

Every single high temperature forecasted for the next 10 days is above the “Normal” still here.

We turn the calendar to November in just over a week and still have water temps around 60 here. I cannot really remember a setup quite like this going into Winter going ~30 days without a drop of rain + well above normal temperatures for 27/30 of those days. We’ve hardly had even what I’d consider “sweatshirt” days here yet.

Just the other day I see an older couple walk into a bar both wearing masks. They sat down with their friends and removed them SMH.

I tried to dig horseradish. I gave up before the shovel broke. Might need a buddy to bring over a mini excavator to harvest it this year. If the cracks in the ground were in the right spot could just pull it out. Sounds like tomorrow nights rain chance is already dwindling.

Broken shovel LOL. I also tried to dig in some leaves and old plant life in my garden and the ground in mine was like rock too. I gave up on that pretty quick lol

Its astonishing how quick the landscape can dry out. We went from moisture surplus and a green landscape to the dust bowl in like 40 days.

A wetter pattern appears to be setting up next week.

This is the precipitation probability from next Tues – Sat.
