The water temperature

…..went backwards with the recent cold front, rain and wind but the crappie bite certainly hasn’t suffered. The big ones were hanging about 30″ down just off the real to deeper water and absolutely hammered the paddle tails we threw to them.

Smallies, several quite nice, came to play with the black fish as well as one very big pile that wanted the crappie I was about to boat. Fishing was fun and varied.

Lots of larger crappies of the female category were caught that still carried spawn. Having the water temps peeled back apparently has pushed the spawning business back too.

We had a chilly start to the day but by 8AM we figured out the pattern the fish wherein and it was game on. Once the sun came thru the clouds things warmed up enough to shed the jacket and the fish helped keep things warmed up. Really a nice day in spite of the blow.
