I just watched the Season 7 premier. Any fans out there? It’s been a great show, but it did take me nearly all of Season 1 to really get into it. I had theories about the premier and I was right! Well half right, anyway.

If you don’t have cable and have been watching it on Netflix like I have, the Season 7 premier is available to watch for free (no logging in either!) on http://www.amc.com!

I wonder if they’ll have the whole season on there. The CW channel does that with many of its shows, including one of my favorites – Supernatural.

I am a huge walking dead fan! Its a great show that has really developed over the seasons. I am just finishing up re-watching seasons 1-6 but I did also watch the season 7 premier and thought it was a great episode. Even though I think it was probably the most gruesome episode it did get the point across about Negan shock

Never watched it, was at the in laws for a party and that happened to come on at end of night and they’re big fans so I sat and watched maybe 20min. Guess you have to have some kind of knowledge beforehand of whats going on because I walked away. One of the dumbest gruesome things ive seen. Take no entertainment value out of splattered brains. Never been a scary movie zombie shooting video game guy so probably just personal preference.

nhamm you’re correct in that you have to have some knowledge beforehand of what’s going on. I have a lot of the same opinions you do, never been into gorey monster zombie stuff, so when my wife started binge-watching TWD on Netflix I let her do it on her own. She kept saying I’d like it and finally I relented and am glad I did.

It’s just (for the most part) a very well-written show. The main drama/intrigue points mostly all related to how the group of people will react to the challenge of lack of food, where they’ll get medical supplies in a dying world to treat their latest injury, how they’ll interact with a new group of people they’ll come across, what to do if one of them gets pregnant and how they’ll take care of a crying hungry baby in the new world of zombies, etc.

I can totally see where you’re coming from; if you don’t know the background storylines like I mentioned, you view a few minutes and you see a few folks get their throats ripped apart and die. However when you know the characters and their struggles, you know the story behind the people being threatened and you know their talents and what their death could mean for the group and their survival. And, at the end of the day, it’s still not everyone’s thing, which is fine, but I really enjoy the show.

I thought it was a great episode too. I’ve been an action/monster/zombie movie fan since I first saw Tremors as a kid, and I didn’t think this episode was any more gory that select past episodes. I guess I could have imagined a lot worse from Lucille. But I think they did it very well. It’s a show about zombies and the apocalypse so reality is that it will be a bit messy at times.

**SPOILER ALERT! DON’T READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH IF YOU HAVEN’T YET SEEN THE SEASON 7 PREMIER!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!****

A few quick thoughts on the premier – I do think the writers had waaaay too much fun making us think that just for a second perhaps Daryl was also going to taste the wrath of Lucille after he punched Negan. I’m going to miss Abraham way more than Glenn, and I think Glenn’s death is going to totally take away from the loss of Abraham. But I would agree that the way Abraham went down was done well – A smart ass to the end, as you’d expect from a redhead. )

Its a great show. I walked away the first time I ever saw. One weekend I started to watch and then I got all caught up and now I try and keep up with the show. I do not do that with any other show ever.

It’s pretty much going by the book so I knew Glenn was going to go.

Its interesting to watch shows evolve from the beginning to the where they are several seasons in. I noticed this with Breaking Bad, which IMO is the greatest TV series ever, well, I haven’t seen some of the other ones that get critical acclaim.
Walking Dead has grown on me certainly. At first it was just dumb zombies walking around, but now you get to know the characters and its more compelling to see where things go. Its actually fun trying to predict what will happen next. There is a huge cult following around TWD and online weeks in advance there were spoilers about who was succumbing to Lucille and they were right.
I never read the comics, but it is interesting to hear how the TV series differs from the comics.

Didn’t get into The Walking Dead until I met my wife around Season 5. We binged Netflix and caught up, too. I’m not super into unrealistic TV/movies, but I love the show. You really do have to watch it from the beginning to really appreciate/understand it. For season 7, We also don’t miss Glen, but were bummed about Abraham.

I was this way about “Breaking Bad,” as well. I’m not into drugs or anything like that, but we watched the whole series on Netflix and I still feel that is the best television series I ever watched.

Another Netflix suggestion is “Longmire.” Stellar show, in our opinion!

Did anyone else get a chance to watch the new episode yesterday? I thought it was a great episode and has been an excellent season so far.
    WARNING SPOILERS……………

The only thing that is stuck in my head right now is Eugene getting into reloading. negan shot a desert eagle chambered in .357 and let the piece of brass sit on the ground. Rosita found an empty beretta 92 which is chamber in 9mm and now wants Eugene to make her a round for her beretta out of that piece of .357 brass shock I do know that they are very similar bullet diameter but is it even possible to shorten and size .357 brass into a 9mm?

    Carter Johnson-

Had to laugh at your post and the technicalities. As an army vet and firearms instructor, some scenes on TWD (as well as other shows/movies) drive me nuts when it comes to firearms handling, tactics, etc.

I’ve got a little different opinion than you on this season.

    SPOILER ALERT****************************************

Obviously the first episode had the shock and awe, and now it’s just seemed like story telling to me. The last two episodes have seemed REALLY slow. A less-successful show than TWD might not get away with it, but they know they’re not going to lose viewers. I’m guessing they build these villians up and when Rick and gang snap on them it’ll be epic. In a way it kind of reminds me of pro wrestling booking, let the bad guy turn the crowd against him, then the good guy gets the fans to go crazy when he hits back and wins.

There’s going to be a lot of setting up alliances etc… this season. Rick knows he can’t win against Negan, and needs soldiers. We’ve seen two other communities controlled by Negan, the rest of this season could be all about building those relationships to join forces to take him out.

Did anyone watch the mid season finale? I personally thought it was a great episode and was for sure needed after a couple “filler” episodes.

Just finished it. The episode covered A LOT of ground and I agree that we needed that after the “filler” episodes.

Side note/question: Has anyone watched the spinoff, “Fear the Walking Dead?”

I haven’t seen any Season 7 episodes since the premier and it’s driving me nuts! I know, I know, I need to get on that!! But we don’t have cable so it’s tricky. It’s also tricky trying to avoid any spoilers so I haven’t read any of the recent posts above. But my plan is to catch up here over the mid-season break.

I finished it. They just about lost me with the nonsense in season 6 so I didn’t watch any of season 7 until it was done and I could binge it. Season 7 is better but they are still purposely dragging things out way too much. If they could weave all the storylines together in each episode (like shows with good writers do whistling ) then I would like it. The way they do it now with 3-4 separate episodes to cover the different storylines before moving on is ridiculous.

Yeah I would agree with that as well. Way too many different things going on at once and no resolution for awhile. I do really have a love-hate opinion now on the problems being more people based and way less zombie related problems I think that will change the next season though! and yes way too many filler episodes for my tastes doah

If they could hire the writers and directors from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul TWD would kick ass.
Better Call Saul started its 3rd season last night and there are more story lines, better acting, etc than ever has been on TWD.
I finished the season of TWD and IMO it really jumped the shark in the finale. I will still watch, but its getting harder.

Jump the shark or jumping tiger? :).

I’m constantly impressed with the quality of Better Call Saul, I’m just about to finish season 2, but it’s consistently great. I was a little skeptical going in as I thought they were just cashing in on Breaking Bad’s success, but it totally stands on it’s own as one of the best shows on TV.

Sorry to bring this post back to life after a few days, just got back from some training and had to comment. I have been waiting for someone to revive the Walking Dead thread.

IMO this season was a chore to get through. This series has gone to the same well way too many times, creating the same old “one group of surviving humans has conflicts with another group of surviving humans.”

Past seasons seemed to have a lot more legit drama and fighting. This season started with a bang and then went flat. I totally understand that not every episode can be too exciting because there’s a time and place for storytelling, but this season spent the whole time storytelling and it wasn’t very interesting.

I told my wife before the finale “you know what, I bet the last episode is going to get into the big fight but not conclude it, leaving it as a cliffhanger to open up next season” and that’s what happened unfortunately. Things are just getting too long and drawn out on this show. I’m still going to watch it as it’s been one of the best TV series I’ve ever seen but damn let’s get a little more excitement throughout the season.

Anyone still watching? Season 9 is now on Netflix! Some pretty interesting dynamics and it’s fun to watch and get involved in conversations about survival, civilization, rebuilding a judicial system, why the hell they haven’t just killed Negan already, etc… it makes for fun theorizing even if the dialog is subpar these last few seasons.
