nhamm you’re correct in that you have to have some knowledge beforehand of what’s going on. I have a lot of the same opinions you do, never been into gorey monster zombie stuff, so when my wife started binge-watching TWD on Netflix I let her do it on her own. She kept saying I’d like it and finally I relented and am glad I did.
It’s just (for the most part) a very well-written show. The main drama/intrigue points mostly all related to how the group of people will react to the challenge of lack of food, where they’ll get medical supplies in a dying world to treat their latest injury, how they’ll interact with a new group of people they’ll come across, what to do if one of them gets pregnant and how they’ll take care of a crying hungry baby in the new world of zombies, etc.
I can totally see where you’re coming from; if you don’t know the background storylines like I mentioned, you view a few minutes and you see a few folks get their throats ripped apart and die. However when you know the characters and their struggles, you know the story behind the people being threatened and you know their talents and what their death could mean for the group and their survival. And, at the end of the day, it’s still not everyone’s thing, which is fine, but I really enjoy the show.
