I’m pretty sure I’ll be riding solo so I’d be happy to hop in somebody’s portable or split the cost of a permanent for Saturday.

Also, watched this IDO episode to get excited!

There will be two in my party.

    No transportation or shelter needed.

I am heading out this Saturday, anyone want to join me?

Watch the show from season 8 show for whitefish.

That is where we will be fishing and the parking spot we will be using.

There is a lot of water to fish.

The wild card will be the commercial nets.

I will be out this weekend and will eyeball the net locations.

I like to stay away from them.

If you want to join me this Saturday, call me, 930-309-0257.

If anybody is interested in fishing it or just looking for something to do after. They are having a ice fishing derby that weekend up there for the walleyes for tomorrow. Fishing is from 4 to 2. They have food & drink, raffles and a band at Wave Pointe on the west shore of Little Sturgeon after.

Going up Saturday for the day eyes and whities, will give you an update next week.

A lot going on that weekend, WFT and Battle on Bago, both great events and for good causes.

    travel time,
By fast walleye boat about 15 minutes
By car about 40 minutes would be my guess.

Hey! I know things are still a week away, but curious if we have an exact meeting time and location for Saturday morning to get out on the ice?

Also, curious if there are any other species possible while we’re out targeting whitefish? Don’t get me wrong, I’m super excited about whitefish, but if I put a tipup out there with a large shiner as my 3rd hook do I have a chance of anything else?

Also, if any group wants to explore walleye around sunset Saturday or Sunrise on Sunday I’d be all about that as well.

I posted this earlier but it still stands the same until I talk to Paul, and that will be soon….that and Murphy Co Park-about 7 miles So of Egg harbor is an access we might use….

As far as time and place….Paul said he would be taking the people bringing their own shacks out first, approximately 6AM,exact time TBA…Then the rental people….
As far as where…that too will be pending until we get closer….for now….use Egg Harbor as a starting point..55 mile N of GB…

As far as I know about the only other fish using these areas are Pout….but I hear they are big ones,I’d bring that tip-up anyway… grin

Area south of Murph park. walleyes cruise there on occasion. Whites will be deeper than eyes usually

Cool. Well, I’ll have a tipup with something on it a ways outside the shack for the pout or whatever comes along. Pout along with whitefish are some of the best eating fish around!

I definitely like the idea of going shallow in the evening for walleyes!

07lowchamp…. Can I hop in your portable Saturday? I like the idea of walleye too in the evening.

Also, I’ll be leaving from stillwater if you (or anybody else) wants to carpool.

I was out yesterday. I need to put the extension on my ION, plenty of ice. Travel on the ice was not bad. A little bit of drifting and slush near shore. The road, new one, is easy to follow. No truck travel that I saw.
I never advice travel on the ice of Green bay with a truck. Others may, I don’t.

Fishing was a little curtailed due to ATC carb issue. Didn’t get lines in the water till after 9:00. Secondary feeding window was 8:03-9:03.

But, we did get the fish. We marked and saw a lot of fish on the camera. There was fish on the camera constantly. I mean 90% of the time we were seeing fish. They were not active or hot on the bite. We did have to work most bites. Can’t imagine if the bite was hot how fast or many we would of caught.

I ended up setting up in 40 FOW on a featureless flat, very little rock, a lot of zebra mussels. Dropped the camera down to check out ground below us and saw fish right off.

We set-up and never moved and never needed to, had our limit by noon.

Best rig for catching fish was my slider rig with gobie painted tungsten jig with x-trigger tipped with waxie. Most fish were caught on the jig, not the slider.
My slider rig with the #2 jigging rap in glow yellow perch did bring more fish in but, the other rig caught more fish.

We tried slider rigs with spoons and jigging shad raps, no real action. We don’t take much time on a rig. If it doesn’t get action quickly, we move on.

This is where the camera works for us. With the camera I can gauge the level of fish activity quickly. We did not see anything other than whitefish, not surprised. We don’t get much action on anything else. Walleyes don’t in habit this area much outside of post spawn and summer. The walleyes that are caught in this area during summer are fish that spawn in the Menominee River or Little Bay de Noc. Some fish may try to spawn along this shoreline, Sturgeon Bay to Gills Rock, but, very little reproduction. Habitat not suitable for spawning, water temperature fluxes in spring kill most eggs.

Side note, this place is getting a little more popular. Never saw this many vehicles there, about 25 rigs in the lot. May have to find myself some fresh grounds.

I will most likely not get out before the get together, need to put new carb on ATC. I may have a second ATC available if I get the big red up and running. I will post if I will have extra ride for someone.

I will also be bring some fresh smoked whitefish.

    See ya Saturday.

Think my anxiety level is at an all time high!!! 6 rods with new line and partially rigged. Tackle organized. Dug the fish camera out of the dust. Heck, I already have the 4 wheeler on the trailer and ready to go.
Still need to decide what baits to put on 4 of the rods. 2 are rigged with sliders.
Friday I am planning on going on a trial run for whites with an evening attempt at eyes. Bring on the weekend! !

My buddy Gregg does a ton of custom painting of spoons and rapalas for the shops in the area.
Everything he has been painting is black and gold.
Most of what he is painting is for guys down in the Sturgeon bay area and south.
For eyes and whitefish in the Sturgeon Bay area I would have on black and gold jigging rap or jigging shad rap.

That is where I would start lure and color wise in that area.

The eye bite has been tougher as of late, typical for this time.

If you get one, it will be of the bigger type fish. Stick to low light periods.

Mudshark, Clown and myself and the rest of our crew will be out on the ice Friday nite camping..do you think Paul will give us the spot by Friday so we can set up there when we get there so we don’t have to pack everything up and move in the morning again?? Just a thought…

Joe…I talked to Paul yesterday afternoon and he will calling me Wednesday afternoon to set up the final details and when he does I will start the final GTG post with all the details….probably that evening…
I still think we will be accessing at Murphy Co park ,about 4 miles south of Egg Harbor at the junction of CO HWY G and CO HWY B …
You guys can be the first ones out that morning wink
1 thing he did say was that, since we have a large group,it will take some time to get everyone out…..just a heads up.
Since my son-in-law has to work, they will not be getting to GB until 10 or so Friday night, so to give them a little more sleep time, we will be one of later groups out….
The first group will leave about 6am or so…
    More coming grin

Almost a deal breaker. Avoided a bad accident, but still ended up with damage to the truck. doah So with the truck down it looks like I’ll be taking the car. No portable, but a bucket and gear is all I need. Good thing I went with a perm. waytogo Probably can’t make it Fri. and a Sun. trip with just the car and no shack is out too. bawling On the food side it looks like I’m bringing a dessert. Subs for lunch( wife says to much hassle for anything else), so if someone will have an extra brat I would apreciate it.(man thing I guess) whistling How deep are we going to be? I found out my camera only has like a 40′ cord. I’m planning on the Irish pub in Sturgeon Bay for supper and drinks on Sat. night. Anyone want to join us? toast
