This will be the last post for the GTG sign up…I will be letting the other posts fade away after this…..

    The rundown.

The GTG will be February 28th in Door Co….
We will be accessing the ice from an area North of Sturgeon Bay based on the fish location, details on where and when(although expect early AM) exactly will be announced the week before..

We will be using Paul Delany to put us on the fish.
Again, here is what Paul will do…
He will provide us with safe transportation to and from an area that gives us the best chance to get on fish.
I have reserved an heated shanty for my group of 4…If anybody else would like this option get 4 people together and contact Paul…
His rates are….4 people per group, transportation only,is $100+tax/group…Heated shacks are $160+tax/4 people ,transportation and holes in the house predrilled.
For any questions or more information or changes contact Paul @
[email protected] and put “unofficial GTG” in the subject line or phone 920-421-0896

So here is what we have so far…If I leave anybody out just give a shout and I’ll change it…so far 3 groups and 1 shack…
    Winnebagoviking 1, joe_the_fisher 3, Michael Watson 2, mower 2. Captianpaddlefoot 1, C.R.C 2, phoyem 1, Myself +2=3

We have 3 or 4 tentatives……hopefully more will sign up… smile
While we still have 5 weeks left before the 28th, the sooner we lock in the actual number, the better, so let me know guys.

As far as the other details like gear and food and such, we will work those out a little later, but that should not be an issue with this group grin ….

Come on and sign up people…This is going to be a great time and Door Co is a great place to fish….Hope to see you there waytogo

    Jeff,
My group may be 2-3 person, all with gear and transport.

I was out yesterday, fished from 9-1pm.

Started in 27 fow and moved once to 46 fow.

Ended with my limit and tossed back another 5-6 fish.

Caught 3 in shallow and finished on the deeper water.

Not sure it was the move to deeper water or the fact that the current picked up when I moved out.

Best bait was a small jigging rapala, glow perch and loaded with waxies.
Next best bait was a custom painted (gobie) tungsten jig, tipped with trigger x and a waxie.

Fished the area we are going for the outing.

I was fishing away from everybody looking for different water.

Current is everything. Eat when the current is down, fish when it us moving.

    Another tip for the trip.
Bring along a bunch of rags to hold the fish to unhook. They are very slippery and tough to hold. I rip up old towels into strips.

Next fishing for me will be next Monday, sailfish and dorado off of Zihua, Mexico!!!

Hey Mudshark. Do you know if Paul or someone will be making a trip to shore? In case the ladies need to or someone has enough fishing with only a half day. If we can make something like this happen, I will have 2 more people. Thanks

Mower- That is a great question. I have no idea on how big of an area we are fishing or how far we are going out. I know I will have a 4 wheeler with a flatbed trailer. We may be able to use that if we are not too far out.

Like Mike said, there will be several people there with 4 wheelers…I would not think we would be to far out for a potty run…

If it’s not too late, My son and I would like to get in on the get together?

No sir…Not too late…I still have some others to contact so I will be contacting Paul next week to update the numbers…I already have 5+ more people to add grin …and that’s not even counting chamberschamps’ added shanty..

25 people and counting…..Time for an ice fishing party! yay mrgreen

Well 3 weeks away..Time for another update grin

Paul called me last week to tell me that he has a show in Madison to do that weekend but assured me that everything is still a go….he works with other guides in the area that know his spots + he will be scouting-fishing that week anyway….so he expects that we will do well either way… waytogo

    Update on the participants…..
    Winnebagoviking 1, joe_the_fisher 3, Michael Watson 2, mower 4?. Captianpaddlefoot 3?, C.R.C 2, phoyem 1, Myself 4,
    chamberchamps 3-4?, fishtoeat 2 ,acafisherman 2? ,07lowchamp 1
The names with a question mark should let me know an exact number ASAP.

We should also should start setting up some more details as far as making sure we have shelters, food, grills and such…brats for my group cool

I’ve been watching the reports up there…the ice is in good shape and the fish have been biting so I’m real optimistic that we will a good time smile

I was out this morning and it was brutal, 30 mph and snow.
Thought the shanty was going to drive me into the ice.
The good news was the fish were there.
Caught 10-11 fish and lost another 5-6 between 8-11am. Constant fish on the screen, sometimes schools of fish.
Spent most of my time testing new rods. I have new 32″ ml with a carbon fiber handle that I am liking a lot. A lot of guys like a lighter rod that loads up. I prefer this rod, much more sensitive.
Best rig was #3 jigging rap in glow perch with a glow slider.
I have it rigged with 6 pound nanofil with 8 pound flourocarbon leader. The slider I use has a bigger hook than the normal ice jig. I think it was an Expedition jig but, I couldn’t find them on there site. Second best was large horizontal tungsten I painted brown with a brownish trigger-x plastic that looks like a Berkley fish fry. Everything tipped with waxies.
Talked to other guys that were out, they didn’t fo as well. They were fighting the current.
I heavily suggest rigging with nanofil.
Ice was in good shape and it appears guides have moved there shacks out. There are commercial nets out. That maybe why they moved.
I did good, one of the best days I have seen on the screen.mi will post a picture of my rigs when I get a chance.

I left the warmth in Mexico. Never saw anything like this come out Green Bay.

    Thanks Mudshark-

I reserved a heated shack from Paul. We’ll only be fishing Saturday.

As of right now, I am going to be a party of two and I have one strong maybe from another person, so it’s possible that I’m a party of three. That leaves one more seat in our shack that’s open to the first person who speaks up…

    @07lowchamp

The heated shack was $160 for a full day from Late Eye’s guide service. Split between four guys that would be $40 bucks plus whatever taxes comes out to be. Price includes transportation of people and gear to and from the shack and holes drilled. Can’t beat it. I’m looking to fill the last seat soon, so the sooner you let me know the better.

the so-called experts are making it sound like It is going to be cold through the end of the month which means we should have great ice conditions on Green Bay.
