I’m gonna need to see at least 3-4″ of snow to see the struggle here

Agreed. It’s really tough right now driving my truck out and settling up. The struggle is real

Always blows my mind the amount of gear people bring when walking out. I usually pull all my gear with one hand and standing straight up.

That used to be me until my smitty couple years ago. I only bring the bare necessities. Pulled mine up hills with one hand. One finger on flat lake in a foot of snow. Those otters are for pulling behind a motorized vehicle.

    Great leg workout.

Rig up some way to attach cross country skis to yours sled. You’ll be able to pull the sled with 1 hand.

    Smitty sled.

Use a waist belt or shoulder harness assembly to pull the sled especially if you don’t go Smitty.

Or pick a lake to drive out on. Trucks everywhere.

Scouted two spots that were too much a party scene with ATV sled rides, football, and a lot of other fun … Fishing is just a side bar for many … That’s fine … plenty of room.

    Slush ?

Agree with the post above … we travel very light. 1 smaller sized sled carries it all easily … rarely use a shelter until mid-January.

I’m a huge fan of truck trolling but you can’t call yourself an ice fisherman unless you’ve hauled all your gear across a mile and a half of snow to get on a “hot bite” only to get skunked.

The walk back feels like 3 miles. And there’s always a big ass hill at the access…

I don’t miss those walks at all.Did enough of them on Lake Mendota years ago, many miles minus the big ass hill.Only obstacle was an occasional ice heave. And it sucked after a heavy snow and then the slush began.I like the years that you had to wear cleats and did not know the sled was in back of you.

Two things. Put some Skis on that sled. And when that little voice in your head says wouldn’t it be nice to bring ???? Think twice.

Scott, how about our one and only trip pulling that original 2 man clam BOX??? every 12″ clump of snow felt like a 3′ drift.

Yes that is not me, How would I take a selfie while pulling my sled. Thought it was a cool pic and had to find a way to post it while being a little sarcastic.

That right there. I did a 3/4 mile one way in the winter of 13/14 through deep, knee deep, snow with slush. I stayed until well after dark simply avoiding the inevitable. The slog back was brutal. I’d make myself do 25 steps and stop for breath, repeat. The high bank at the end took me a full 20 minutes to get up and another 15 to load my gear I was so exhausted by then.
I’m in pretty decent shape, but in hindsight that was stupid of me and could have easily gotten dangerous.

On you tube these days they ride out stage a camera ride back to the landing and then ride out so the camera catches them pulling up to the spot.. it seems like a major pain, especially for a boring ass video

That’s my thought on all of these Youtubers — so much work to capture what you are doing. On top of the pain of whatever you are doing, you have the hassle of running cameras all around, making sure they are working with enough juice, pointing to the right spot. Then go back and retrieve them all.
