So is it just an updated version of Jeremiah Johnson or Mountain Men….or is it a fresh story line that’s worth seeing?

Well isn’t this movie supposed to be based on Hugh Glass? The Previews didn’t make it look very true to the story.

I’m not sure where the story originates from but DiCaprio has received a huge amount of nominations for an award for his work here. Its a lot deeper than a bear attack and one has to see it to understand some of the underlying statements that are made without saying a word.

The movie was glacial slow and predictable. Unless Leo was portraying a penguin it was also extremely unrealistic. I did think Leo played the role very well. The dude has crazy acting chops. I cant think of a movie he has been in where he hasnt just plain killed it. Unreal that fella hasnt won boat loads of Oscars.

If you havent been to the Oakdale theatre, you are missing out. I watched the purple bed wetters on a couch and drank whiskey, then we watched the movie in a leather recliner while a waitress served us beer and pizza. The place kicks ass.

Story originated from Lemon, SD , filmed almost exclusively in Canada. Close enough right? haha

The Hateful Eight is another wild movie. Lots of head shots and probably inappropriate for kids, especially girls, under 16-17. People know their own kids best and have to make the call as to whether kids should see some of this stuff. Both the Hateful Eight and The Revenant have plenty of blood scenes.

    ^^^What Tom said.

The Mrs. and I felt like we were suffering from a little PTSD after what we saw on screen. The casting, acting, and cinematography were very good. The gore and violence I could do without. Think ‘Saving Private Ryan’ of the West. Oh, and my understanding was that the film was loosely based on the story of Hugh Glass. Hollywood took certain liberties to thicken the plot though.

His house was built into a huge rock. As I understand it the house was full of snakes during the winter as he built his dwelling on a prime wintering area for the local slitherers. Fun place to visit. Blue Mounds also has a herd of genetically pure bison too. Beautiful State Park and close to the Pipestone quarries which is interesting as well.
