Anyone else keeping up with “Jimbo” (ha!) and the rest of the crew battling it out 39 hours style? So far, I’m hooked. Excellent production as always!

Just started watching the first episode right now. Thanks for the heads up. Seems good so far. If this is as good as 39 hrs was, it will be an early Christmas present.

Not to poop on the parade but this one feels more like a reality show. Seems more about the personalities than the fishing. Maybe that’s just day 1, but the fish caught aren’t that impressive considering how far they went.

I’m up for watching anything with Wiebe in it. Uncut angling was the best fishing production on Youtube, and he is starting to slowly kick out content again. I’ve enjoyed both episodes. Just a bunch of friends having a good time on the water.

Wiebe can fish but he’s just screaming for attention with everything he does it seems.

I haven’t started watching but looking at the teams I’d put my money on jay and taro.

I watched while babysitting my loopy wisdom tooth patient son today. Serious question… is 25” a big walleye for northern Manitoba? And if so, why is that? Seems like the pike and lakers grow larger up there so I’m surprised. Was confused by their excitement as I just assumed their walleye size was at least as good as down here.

I think the only guy I could fish with for 4 days is Jay.

that’s a good question but a 25″ eye is big anywhere in the midwest to Canada IMO. Is it a trophy caliber fish…..not really. I don’t know about Manitoba in general but the trophy walleye lakes in Canada are tied to river systems like Winnipeg and Tobin off the top of my head.

Yes a 25″ Walleye is big in Northern Manitoba… I have been going to various fly in lakes the past 20 years and my biggest that I can recall is 24″. The growing season is short, along with competition for forage is the main reason I was told they don’t get much bigger than 24″. You can catch 18-21″ all day long, but the bigger ones are more elusive. As far as big eyes… Lake Winnipeg puts out 30″ like crazy… the greenies !

I think they mentioned it in the show, they’re basically at the northern limit of the standard walleye range. I wouldn’t put a blanket statement on Northern Manitoba walleye size… it’s a really big place – for perspective the lake they’re fishing is 600+ miles north of Winnipeg. The “Northeast” Region that they’re in starts less than 100 miles north of Winnipeg – 500 miles away. The same distance as LOTW to central Iowa.

I have to agree. These programs have all become reality shows.

What TV program is hosting this series? When I search for The Outpost, it seems I get a very different show.

Thanks for the feedback on walleye size guys. Makes sense. I think I get spoiled with the size on the river here.

Mark— as far as I know this is YouTube only, no tv network involved.

I got about 3/4 into the 1st one. So far its just OK to me. Like others have said the fishing doesn’t see real great for how far into Manitoba they are.

This must depend on how far north into Manitoba you are. Where we go in Manitoba ( 500 Miles ) North of the border crossing we use. a 25″ walleye is not that uncommon. Each year we catch a fair amount of 25+ ” walleyes and have caught them as big as 30″ and I lost one that I’d guess was close to 32″ at the boat side. Where we go in Saskatchewan ( 560 Miles north of the border ) a 25″ walleye would hardly get noticed. Yes its a shorter growing season but often their forage is a much higher calorie source. They often get far less fishing pressure and live a lot longer life. I guess just like here there are many factors that effect the size potential.

So far the lack of pike size is the real surprise so far. once again where we go in Canada there are just so many 34-38″ fish its crazy. We only count and keep track of those fish over 40″ I’m guessing at some point they are going to start catching some bigger Pike for sure.

I watched some of it, but to me it just wasnt as good as that 39 hours. I liked the competitors in that one better. Agreed on Jay being the only one I could fish with he is the most normal guy out of all of them.

    They caught a 38 and a 40.
Not sure I would ever stop laker fishing. Way too much fun.

The experience I have is 770+ miles North of the border. 500 miles north of the border is more central Manitoba. Once you get above the 57th Parallel… its a different world. Like you said, Pike at 50″ + make 30″ Walleyes their prey.

That 270 miles farther North must make a big difference in size of the walleyes. I know the Pike grow BIG way up even past where you go. Seen a few video’s from both Wollaston Lake and Great Slave Lake with some real monster pike.

38 and 40 now they are getting up into the range I’d expect for Pike in that area.

I’m with you on the Laker fishing. It would be hard to trade that in for 15-18″ walleyes, Even a 26-28″ walleye for that matter. That is the part of our spring Canada trip I enjoy the most – Laker fishing in shallower water on light spinning gear. The are a blast to catch.

If you’re 770 miles north of the border, I don’t think you’re in Manitoba anymore

770 Driving Miles… as the crow flies, not sure, but North of the 57th Parallel.

Checked on Google Earth, its 604 miles north of the border from Pembina, as the crow flies.

I a big fan of Jay and Wiebe but am not able to get into this one, too many guys yelling and screaming with excitement. I think I just prefer there videos of fishing and showing different areas and methods for catching fish

We use the Pembina crossing for both of our Canada trips each year as well. The 500 miles I gave was driving milage from Pembina.

Dam I didn’t know there was even roads that far north in MB, that’s a haul of a drive

This series is getting a little better each episode
