Hi just saw this in the new In fisherman gear guide. The new Russian ice auger I like the idea of the handle for the drill. Any thoughts? I have the 6 inch K-drill which I love but thought about getting a 7 inch for walleyes as well and at 100 bucks verse 200 for a 8 inch K-drill may have possibilities. I would like to have the handle option incase I could not use the K-drill Due to dead battery. I looked on u tube only found 2 videos looks like it runs backwards I don’t think that would cause an issue.

I had the Nils it is a great auger however because of the welded disk I was unable to get through some ice the last year I had it.

Where do you get replacement blades from? Was not able to find any with a 2 min google search. Granted I did not try too hard but should I have to?

I really do not like to brand bash, but these are imported by HT. Take it for what it’s worth there…You will not find a lighter and faster auger than the K-drill or the Nils. The standard Nils works just like the convertible, but does not have the disc that you don’t like. I have been using 6″ and 8″ Nils augers with a hand crank, drill and powerhead for years with zero issues.

I used the Pink 6″ Nils last tournament season with my Milwaukee drill. Fastest auger I’ve ever seen hands down.

As a Nils owner and strictly 6″ drill I haven’t had any issues pulling walleye through that hole. If I ever get worried I’ll drill two 6″ holes side by side )

2 side by side would be a 12″hole hope your marking those holes so a kid doesn’t fall in or someone’s day gets ruined from it. Have seen too many unmarkedlarge holes in recent years

Bringing back an older topic. Been reading about this nero auger on another site and it gets alot of praise for speed, lightness, and price. Has anyone ever actually tried one or seen one used out on the ice?

I have a Nils 8 inch. I bought a 6 inch Nero to use to drill smaller holes to scout with my Livescope finder.

The Nero is a great value and it works great. It is collapsible and came with the drill adapter for less than the cost of just the 8 inch Nils head.

I love my Nils (and I have 3 heads), but I will say nothing against the Nero. A better value for the money if funds are tight.

Couple things about this video that have me questioning it. First I dont understand why the guy with the Kdrill appears to be using all his weight to push down on the drill. I have to literally hold my drill up due to the downward pull of the torque. Second, my kdrill with M18 spins way faster that that one does. I think there is something funny going on with this “test”….

That kdrill sure didn’t look like it was cutting very well for some reason. The nero did look like it cut well, which really any auger with sharp blades should.

Be careful of that spinning handle though! That could hurt if you stood too close.

Although I love my KDrill, I may have bought this over it if I new about it or it was out at the time. Love the integrated drill handle and the fact you can manually drill as well…which brings up an interesting idea:

I’m wondering if you can simply buy that adapter that turns it from hand to power auger? you could use that on most augers I bet…

You do realize the handle does nothing to react torque right? Using the integrated handle on the shaft would actually be quite dangerous. You’d have just one hand on the drill so that means one wrist is reacting the torque instead of two. Using the factory drill reaction bar is the only safe way to use a drill while drilling a hole. Notice how the guy on the video didn’t even use it?

FYI: If you want the option to use a drill or auger by hand you can just buy a laser hand auger… they do both already and are cheaper than this.

I would put my 8” pistol bit up against either one of those as well.

I’ve got the Octane/Nero combo and all the hubbub about how dangerous the torque can be without the proper handles/braces/clam plate seems a bit over done to me. As a right hander I use the integrated handle from the Nero in my right hand to control the bit, and my left hand on the drill which I plant against my body as I’m drilling. Any catch and my jacket will absorb the torque. I’ll eventually attach the auxiliary handle that came with the drill to see how that feels, but just haven’t needed to yet…

I love my Lazer Pro and it’s certainly not going anywhere, but this thing has made drilling holes fun again. (As I’m sure the K-drill, Pistol Bit, etc. do, not trying to start a war) Eventually I’ll have to do a side by side with my Lazer because this just might be in my head, but it feels like the Nero is measurably faster through the ice (granted, a 7″ bit vs. a 10″ on the SM)

Anyway, I thought the drill option would be more of an early ice thing for me, but with the donkey batteries available now, it may play a bigger role throughout the season.

Sure you can brace the drill against your body but what’s the point when there is already a handle on the drill for this exact purpose?

I actually built a rotating handle like this on my first version of my homemade auger adapter years ago. I quickly realized my design flaw.

Once I got a drill with a factory torque handle life got a lot easier so ya it’s worth the “hubbub” in my opinion. Without the torque handle you could destroy your wrist if you didn’t brace the drill against you body as you stated.

I’m heading out in an hour here, I’ll have to toss that handle on and give it a try. I rather enjoy my wrists intact, and I certainly don’t need my golf game to get any worse.

I’ve had a couple close calls years ago that made my hair stand up on my neck. For me I’m just not using a drill to auger holes without the added torque arm. Once you use both handles it’s just as comfortable and safe in my opinion as a full size auger only way less weight.

Good luck fishing! Walleye are biting pretty good here waytogo

There all good…but this fella is half the cost of my kdrill plus it has a manual handle. That’s why I’m sold. I honestly don’t care if it takes me an extra 30 seconds to drill a hole… it’s never won me anything!

I think max size is 7” and those are $110
I paid 170 for 8” pistol and the milwaukee handle is just fine. It rips

What Octane are you talking about?

Rigid makes the Octane drill and it has 1,300 lbs of torque, 100 more than Milwaukee. Nice drill. Best warranty as well…lifetime on BOTH the drill and battery.

I had the pleasure of seeing this auger 1st hand today and Just like that video above, it’s easily 3:1 holes vs the kdrill.

if anyone is considering an auger to pair with a drill, GET THE HT NERO MINI AUGER! Its crazy cheap and amazingly fast.

Nils, strikemaster, kdrill should be embarrassed by this machine! Lol. No but seriously, I own a kdrill and wish I saved some money and bought this fella.
