The last week I’ve been throwing the ned rig as I’ve mentioned on here a couple times. It’s just a painful way to fish for me but during really tough bites it does catch them.

Do you guys love or hate the ned rig and what are your favorite plastics for it? I’ve mostly used the Big TRD or rage menace. Both have worked. This was last Thursday before a big storm came in. Snuck out for an hour and a half and caught more fish than the five hour trip I had the week prior. I guess there is something to it after all.

Just started Nedding this summer. Smallies sure love it but getting them to stick is another story. Go through plastics like crazy. Tough to find weights heavy enough to reach bottom in current. Constant fight with weed guards. I’m not giving up on them yet. Still a work in progress.

I don’t particularly care for it or the drop shot, but I use it somewhat regularly. There are days when a finesse approach is required. I have had pretty decent success using it for brownies on Mille Lacs.

I use the standard TRD and the big version. Neither one seems to out fish the other. It sucks in weeds and it’s always getting hung up.

I have noticed smallmouth coming unhooked on them as well. Interesting. I haven’t lost a lot of plastics on them. The heads I’m using have the little plastic barb on it and combined with the Elaztec plastic it’s hard to get them off the hook with your hands even. I’ve had good luck with smallies with the coppertruesse color from zman.

I was getting hung up a lot on the day I filmed this. I don’t use jigs with the weed guard but it almost made me want to. Hasn’t seemed to help much when I’ve used the guard either though.

Not sure how heavy you need but maybe look into Shur-Set Ned heads. Thorne carries them but to get the bigger sizes (up to 5/32) might have to check on line. I am amazed at how sticky their hooks are – almost PIA getting them unhooked when releasing.

Don’t waste your time with those. I have tried the ones with the cheap weed guard on the mushroom head and they aren’t a weed guard by any means.

Frydog posted a while back about a trd rig that was weedless. It had a weird name.

Tiny Child Rig… ok seriously, can’t make that type of name up. Google it – Weird2fish and Iaconelli have videos on it.

    shock

In all seriousness I’ll probably check it out. I just got some of the All Terrain Mighty Head jigs and some ned heads from Woo Tungsten. We’ll see if they are better than Zman. Shouldn’t take much.

After catching fish but being frustrated with getting hung up with the ned I found these. Gonna try em out and see how they do. Texas rigged ned heads. Supposedly they still stand up easily also.

Ned rig is now my go to when I NEED a bite. Most of the time I fish it a little heavier than other people and work it faster than most, kinda power fish it??? LOL… I use Swagger Tungsten heads and have experimented with many plastics but always seem to go back to the good ol standard TRD. Go to color is “New Money” for zman TRDs.

Does anybody else HATE the elaztec plastic? Sure it’s crazy durable but it’s a PIA to get to sit on the hook the way you want and if you have a bait keeper on the hook good luck trying to adjust the stupid thing. It definitely catches fish and it’s bouyant but man it drives me crazy.

I don’t care for the Elaztech either. I tend to use Yum dingers or my favorite is the Berkley chigger craw.

I like zman’s elaztec products. As mentioned mostly because of the durability. Unfortunately the same durability is what makes it difficult to rig up sometimes. I remember fishthumper commenting about this during the spring when he was trying to insert a nail weight into one.

I don’t use a lot of their products but the TRD is a smallmouth catching machine on Mille Lacs. I also use their tubez which are some of the smallest on the market.

Seems like when I have to use super glue to keep the TRD tight to the jig head the number of bites go down… helps if I glue the night before so the scent goes away some.

Have been using the NedZone worms more and more – they don’t last as long as Elaztech but are pretty cheap. The floating bulb tail seems to undulate at rest more than the TRD. So far they’ve worked great, haven’t bought Z-mans in a long time.

I just picked up some of the craws to see if I get more smallmouth and more bites in general with them that the big trds

Personally I do, so I hope it works for you as well.

If the worm floats & bobs at a diagonal, its more natural and gets bit more, if it is straight static vertical thats not as good.
