Steve DeMars did a very good job of typing this up so I’m just pasting it here.
There’s been a lot of hours spent in making this happen and it appears something called politics may prevent our castnet legislation from going through.
NOT because it’s a bad law. Because of partisan bickering!
Please lend your support!
OK – Its time for a bunch of you cat folks to get involved in helping pass some critical legislation needed to enhance our fishing opportunities. As most of you know we have been working with the MN DNR to get legislation passed that would allow the use of cast nets to harvest gizzard shad. After several years of effort the cast net proposal was included in this year’s MN DNR Fish and Game Bill currently working its way through the legislature. That bill is in trouble and it may not make it to a vote. We need your help to contact the Senate Majority Leader, Thomas Bakk and ask him to support the Mn DNR Game and Fish Bill. Here is his e-mail information: http://www.senate.leg.state.mn.us/members/member_bio.php?mem_id=1003
Here is the e-mail I sent him and I ask you to please send him a similar e-mail. Just go to his webisite and click on “Contact me by e-mail Form”. Here is what I said in my e-mail: “I am an avid MN Sportsman and I have been following the Game and Fish Bill (SF 1303) as it has moved through the Senate and its companion bill (HF 1406) as it moved through the House. I fully support the DNR’s efforts shown in this year’s Game and Fish Omnibus Bill. Some of us have worked hard with the MN DNR to craft the changes included in the bill. These changes are needed and we ask you for your support to get this legislation passed during this legislative session.”
