Very sad day. Merle Haggard passed away today on his 69th birthday. He was my absolute favorite singer extremely thankful I got to see him last year at the state fair one last time! Rest in peace “Hag”

    A sad day indeed.
Merle was once reminiscing with Johnny Cash about one of the San Quentin shows when Johnny finally had to admit that he didn’t remember Merle playing that show. The Hag told him he had been in the audience. He was the real deal. Just a picker and a singer.

    Rip Hag.

I’ll admit he wasn’t at the top of my list but I really appreciate what he and his generation contributed to the entire music industry.

The Hag was a true country classic. Rest in peace and thanks for the wonderful music.

One of these days when my time has come
You can take me back to where I’m from
Put me on a westbound train
And ship me off in the pourin’ rain
Don’t cry for me when I’m gone
Just put a quarter in the jukebox and sing me back home and
Tip your hats and raise your glasses of cold cold beer
    They say country’s fading
But just keep waving that flag around here
And I know it’ll keep on coming back
As long as people pledge allegiance
    Where folks still pledge allegiance
I pledge allegiance to the Hag

    Rest in peace.

You know this old world is full of singers
But just a few are chosen
To tear your heart out when they sing
    Imagine life without them
    All your, radio heros
Like the outlaw that walks through Jesse’s dream

No, there will never be another
    Red-headed stranger
A Man in Black and Folsom Prison Blues
    The Okie from Muskogee
    Or Hello Darling
Lord I wonder, who’s gonna fill their shoes

    [Chorus:]
    Who’s gonna fill their shoes
    Who’s gonna stand that tall
    Who’s gonna play the Opry
    And the Wabash Cannonball
Who’s gonna give their heart and soul
To get to me and you
Lord I wonder, who’s gonna fill their shoes

God bless the boys from Memphis
    Blue Suede Shoes and Elvis
Much too soon he left this world in tears
    They tore up the Fifties
    Old Jerry Lee and Charlie
And old Go Cat Go still echoes through the years

You know the heart of country music
Still beats in Luke the Drifter
You can tell when hew sings I Saw the Light
    Old Marty, Hank and Lefty
Why I can feel them right here with me
On this Silver Eagle rolling through the night

    [Chorus:]
    Who’s gonna fill their shoes
    Who’s gonna stand that tall
    Who’s gonna play the Opry
    And the Wabash Cannonball
Who’s gonna give their heart and soul
To get to me and you
Lord I wonder, who’s gonna fill their shoes

Yes I wonder, who’s gonna fill their shoes?..
