The future?

It’s been around for a few years. Vexilar has one too.

My phone is going nowhere near an ice hole and mine doesn’t work in the cold anyway. I’m also not going to hold my phone while I jig. I need two hands to reel in a fish.

I thought I read it doesn’t work well once the ice gets thick because it floats. I was intrigued by the mapping capabilities. I fish several bodies of water that do not have contour maps available and this program would help me immensely.

My phone is a safety device as well as my back up navigation… Yes it plugs into the quad, but I don’t think I would be interested… Maybe an iPad would be better. Soon the tablet will replace our displays. It already has somewhat.

Not ice but I already use a gps-enabled tablet for navionics on my boat. This winter I grabbed the vexilar tbox unit to bring sonar and lake mapping to to my aluminum small lakes boat. Totally portable.

Yes, I believe that it is the future of sonar units. Several companies offer a similar product, and I’ve been wanting to try one. I’m not sold on the floating ball design, and wish that companies would adopt the Vexilar HS Transducer model. It looks like the Deeper app is really progressing, and already has more capabilities than sonar units that cost at least 5 times more. Just hope someone improves the transducer. The ability to use a relatively inexpensive 10” tablet with 1920 x 1200 resolution connected to a true Vexilar/Marcum/Hummingbird ice transducer would be very appealing.

Integrating cell phones with sonar seems sketchy and impractical at best. Ill get excited when the companies start using oled screens on their finders.
